Saints Sin Against Colts 08

When trying to get to a game,
directions are always important.... For those who followed my directions, we
got there ok. Max, Dan, Sam Pike &
Sam Kipling were late after going to Wickwar, and Jay was unable to find us at
all, and didn’t play. This meant…
Away team first - The line up
was:
Jamie G
Jack Zac
Josef Sam B Tom
Joe
Rolling Subs: Sam P, Jamie C,
Luke & Mark
We kicked off and soon,
Saints had a free kick on the right, Jack stopped the danger. After 3 mins, a ball was played into our
area, Tom tackled Jamie as he tried to pick the ball up, Saints shot and the
ball ricocheted around, off Tom and into our net 1-0.
Saints attack from kick off
down our left flank, Zac tried to clear unsuccessfully, the ball was played
back in and it was 2-0. Zac then got the ball forward to the wing, it
broke down, but he got it back in the centre, and Zac calmly drilled the ball low past keeper into bottom left hand
corner of net 2-1.
A run by Joe down the left
then had promise as he beat two players, cut in, beat the keeper and the ball
came to Sam in the middle, but a defender got back to make a saving tackle.
From a saints corner we broke
with Zac and then Mark. The ball was
crossed to no one and our whole team were committed in their box. They then
broke, the small blond player had a 1 on 1 with Jamie who he side-stepped and
rolled the ball into an open goal 3-1.
A bouncing ball was then
played into our box, Jamie couldn’t grasp it, a shot by a saints player on the
left was blocked by Jack and cleared. A
big kick by Jamie over the halfway line was picked up by Zac and he ran at goal
to shoot and the keeper made a good save.
Later another through ball to Zac,
with a long chase to keeper but he shot wide.
For the second half Saints attacked down their
right wing but Mark at left back made a strong tackle and good clearance. Saints then did the same again and this was
followed by a shot into the side netting.
A big kick by Jamie, was attacked by Mark and put
out by the corner flag by a Saints defender. Next, Joe ran across field with
the ball and shot into side netting. A big clearance by Jamie was picked up by
Saints who attacked and Jamie was forced into making a good diving save. Next
Saints latched onto through ball but a sliding tackle by Tom cleared the
danger.
But soon they had another goal. A ball through which Jamie cleared, but only
to another Saint who hit it into the back of the net 4-1.
Straight away, the ball was crossed to the left
wing and the little blond boy who scored most of their goals, picks it up, side
stepped Jamie and shot into an open net 5-1.
In the dying minutes, a free kick just outside our
area hit hard by Tom to Sam B in their half and was well controlled He was tackled but forced the ball through to
Zac who blasted low past the
advancing keeper 5-2. And that was the last meaningful action of
the game.
Man of the Match – For hard work up and down the
pitch as well as both goals - Zac
Hallett
The Home team were next - The
line up was:
Aaron
James Dan
Oscar George Ethan
Max
Rolling Subs: Jordan, Sam K
We kicked off and after the
ball pinged around for a bit, we settled into our game. Highlights included; a strong tackle by Max,
Ethan made a good run, A determined run by Max who shot and had it saved by the
keeper.
A Drop ball won by Ethan, and
then Max ran all the way and scored
the first goal 0-1. A run with the ball by Ethan & Max and a good
tackle by Oscar. A tackle by Sam K &
run into the box.
A good run by Ethan was
followed by a run by Sam but he was
cynically fouled. The free kick was
taken by Ethan but it was hit out for a goal kick. A good break by Sam but their keeper made an
excellent save.
For the second half Max went on a wonder run but their centre half tackled him. Sam went on a run and passed to Max, but it
didn’t come to anything. A good run by
Dan led to their keeper handling the ball outside of the area, Sam took the
kick but it was into the side netting.
Near the end Sam went on a
good run and hit a ferocious shot, which bounced up at the right time and was
save by keeper off of his head.
My
apologies for the paucity of the 2nd report but my roving reporter
was not as descriptive as the first had been.
Mark… you’re fired!!!
As for the
games, we played well in both but the first Saints team had two players who
were that little bit more switched on than us and scored their goals. They didn’t just run with their heads down
but looked up and made good decisions, something that will come with time.
