Cleve Get Done! 15/09/03 ____________________________________________________________________
Directions were perfect and
everyone got there on time. We only had
16 players to choose from which made selection easy. I decided to let Tom and Jack run their teams
and so was free to sit back, watch the game and record an incisive,
professional review! It was a lovely
sunny morning and to cap it for me, our old club secretary, Mr Mike Richards
came to watch.
The Away/Green team went
first - The line up was:
Jamie G
Zac Tom
Josef Sam P
Mark Sam B
Rolling Sub: Luke (2nd
half, all on, 8-a-side)
We kicked off and Sam B
attacked down the right wing, had a shot, which ricocheted out of the area to
Mark who also shot and the ‘keeper saved.
Tom then broke out of defence, rode two challenges before the ball broke
to Sam B outside of the area. He hit a
high shot but over the bar. A big kick
out by Jamie was controlled by Tom, passed forward to Sam B who had a shot
which was saved by the ‘keeper. Next, a
big clearance by Clevedon’s ‘keeper was picked up by their centre forward, he
turned on a sixpence and went wide right but shot into the side netting.
A throw in on the left wing
came to Mark, he passed it through to Sam
B, who ran in on goal and beat the ‘keeper at his near post 0-1.
From kick off we chased a ball into the left corner where Mark picked it up and had a shot which
again beat the ‘keeper at his near post 0-2. From kick off, Tom got the ball and played a lovely
ball through to Sam B who stopped at the last minute and played the ball just
wide. Mark then chased a player into the
corner, got the ball and had a shot, which was saved but rebounded as far as Sam B who side-stepped a defender and
buried the ball in the back of the net 0-3. From their kick, the ball come through to
Tom, virtually on our goal line. He
tried to go around a player but was blatantly brought down, which was ignored
by the ref’ and after a bit of a melee, the ball was hit out to Mark who ran at
the ‘keeper but poked the ball just wide.
In the dying minutes, Mark passed to Tom who shot high and wide.
In the second half, the ball came to Zac in our
left back area, he ran down pitch strongly and had a shot which was about a
foot wide. Excellent attacking play by
Josef in the midfield was taken up by Tom but the move broke down. They broke and Zac was forced into a foul about
20 yards out. From the free kick, the
Clevedon player blasted goal-wards through a crowd, which seemed to be
everyone, and into the net 1-3. From a good throw by Josef to Tom, the ball
was played into the area and came to Sam B who had a shot, then Luke who had a
shot, but they broke only to be stopped by a combination of Zac and Sam P. They then broke again but were stopped by the
last line of defence in the form of Sam P.
He played an excellent ball forward to Tom whose shot was deflected
wide.
Clevedon goalie kicked a high ball out which was
met first time by Zac with a ball to Mark.
He crossed to Sam B whose shot was well saved. Clevedon then had an injured player on the
floor being ignored so a quality manager (me!) went on and tended to him. Near the end Jamie and Zac combined to make a
great stop. The game ended a few seconds
later.
Man of the Match –
The Home/Yellow team went 2nd
- The line up was:
Aaron
Dan James
Oscar
Jordan Ethan
Joe
Max
We kicked off and straight
away we were reduced to 7 for a few minutes as Max went off injured. Ethan also took a knock, which restricted him
for the rest of the game. A great tackle
by Oscar was followed by a good ball to Joe. He ran past their last defender and had a
strong shot, which hit the left post and went out.
Good defending again by Oscar
who got the ball back to Aaron. He
cleared over the halfway line to Dan who controlled it well and headed for
goal, only to be tackled by a recovering defender. Clevedon then broke but James made three
strong challenges and eventually the ball went out for a goal kick. They attacked again, but James was there to
stop them.
Aaron threw the ball out to
Joe, who went forward and then passed to Dan and from him onto Max.
He then hit it low past the ‘keeper 0-1.
At half-time it was ascertained that the boys
thought they were losing 1-0! In the
second half and we had a throw in the left-back position. Ethan stole about ten yards before throwing
the ball, to much merriment on the sidelines.
Next some great tackling by Jordan and Oscar led to a ball out by Tom to
Dan and on again to Max but he was unable to convert. They attacked back but James shadowed their
player across field and eventually forced it out of play.
Clevedon ‘keeper kicked the ball out poorly which
Joe took up, ran wide left and had a strong shot which was well saved. Clevedon then attacked,
From the kick off Joe won the ball, attacked down the left wing and hit a bullet shot
which went in off of the far post 0-3. Then, from a poor goal kick by Clevedon, Joe again won the ball and beat the
‘keeper at his near post for a 5 minute hat-trick 0-4. From the kick off Ethan
attacked down the right wing, crossed to Max whose shot was saved for a
corner. James took the corner, the ball
was played back to him, he ran in and then found Max who went left, right, left, right to beat two players before
burying the ball into the far corner 0-5,
and cruising.
Clevedon attacked from kick off, James tackled but
the ball came to another forward and Aaron, after almost two hours of play, was
finally beaten, 1-5. Clevedon attacked again down the right wing
as Oscar decided he’d had enough of this defending lark! Aaron came out to try to save but is injured
and the ball is rolled into the back of the open net 2-5. We had one final attack
as Joe played a lovely ball through two defenders to Max. He ran at the ‘keeper and shot, but it was
well saved and the game ended.
Man of the Match –
We played
some excellent football, and there were more and more signs of the ball being
passed around which did lead to goals.
If we can keep this level of improvement up then we can turn into a very
strong team indeed. Well done boys!
