Welcome To The
Wonderful World Of Football September 2003
Our policy, in line with the FA guidelines was that no Under 6s would
play in a competitive game in that season.
The season is usually defined September to May. That meant we could enter into the Yate Utd
tournament. We also tried to get into
Bitton, but we were too late. We only
had one recognised keeper at the time, that was Aaron. For the day we asked Josef to go in
goal. Also, due to a mix up at our
creation, Matt Long & Jack Dancey had played up an age. Because this was our first competitive
football against teams who had been playing, I asked those boys to join us for
the day, one in each team, to give a small bit of experience to our boys. This was however a Festival of Football so at
least no team would be knocked out.

Green Team Aaron, Sam B,
Matt Long, Jack Y, Max, Dan & James B
Yellow Team Josef, Jack
Dancey, Tom, Charlie, Sam P & Sam K
The Green team played Portishead Juniors A first,
losing 2-0, then Abbeymead Rovers
A, again losing 2-0. Next it was BRSJ A which we also lost 2-0, followed by Yate Utd A which
again was 2-0. Finally we played Ferndale Rodbourne A in
which we earned a creditable 0-0
draw.
The Yellow team played Shaw Whitley B first,
losing 1-0, then it was Abbeymead
Rovers B also losing 1-0. Then came the moment that we had all been
waiting for. Against BRSJ B, whilst
under pressure, Tom won the ball in
defence, ran the length of the field, past two tackles and beat the keeper in
what proved to be the only goal of the game 1-0. Our first goal and our
first win. Josef was so happy that he
ran the length of the pitch from in goal to celebrate with Tom, as did the rest
of the team! We then came back down to
earth with a bump, losing 3-0 to
Yate Utd B, before also gaining a creditable draw against Bradley Stoke A 0-0
Men of the Tournament This wasnt chosen, but I think that all of the
players deserved it for the way they approached playing different teams for the
first time.
Although
the day was overcast and we lost most games, all of the boys came away smiling
from the day. They all received a medal
memento as well and it was a good learning experience.
