We had no game, however the U11 Colts were looking for a training game as they were getting ready for the step up to 11-a-side next season.  With a Skinner in both teams, we thought it apt that another should Ref, Joe doing the honours.  Sam & Josh were still out injured and Joby had fell off his bike quite badly and felt it would be better to miss this one.  With it being a training game, it was a long way for Jake to come, so he rested.  With no ‘keeper, but the U11’s having two, they took a half each for us, Brandon going first and Olly second.

The line up was:

Brandon C

Charlie     Brandon T     Reece     Joel

Bryn     Tom     Aaron     Max

Jay     Callum

Substitute:

They kicked off and Aaron charged in to win it, before passing it to Callum, back to Bryn and back to Charlie, forward to Tom, left to Joel, down the line for Max, inside to Jason who touched it for Tom and he went back out to the left for Max to win a corner.  Nine passes encompassing eight players, a quickly settled start.  Callum swung over the corner from the left and Aaron on the front post flicked it past their ‘keeper Olly, 0-1.  From a throw, Aaron won it on the left and went down the line for Callum and he pulled it inside for Aaron to go past two challenges to the line, where he cut it back to where Jay & Bryn were waiting, and Bryn tapped it in 0-2.  At that point we took Tom & Aaron off and rotated the subs from then on with everyone having ten minutes off and we played a 3-3-2 formation with Charlie pushing into midfield.  Callum attacked down the left before squaring it across the 18 yard line to Bryn, and he flicked it through the defence for Jay to run onto and calmly slot into the bottom left 0-3.  They tried to break through us, however Bryn got to it and passed it back to Brandon C, however his touch was a bit heavy and he lost it.  Brandon T got on the line behind him, however he stood tall and made the save from the shot.  They kept up the pressure and forced a corner which we didn’t clear properly and another shot came in, which again Brandon C saved well.  Brandon C played it out to Brandon T, who went down the line for Jay, however it was cut out.  Brandon T ran in and took it quickly, long over all of their heads and Callum was into the area on his own, around Olly and in 0-4.  We had a period of possession, but then Joel passed towards either Brandon or Reece, but found the gap between them and their forward ran up and shot, however Brandon C made a great diving save.  We then won a free kick when of all people, they fouled Joel!!!  Aaron took it early back to Brandon C and he passed it out to Charlie who went into Bryn.  Bryn nicked it past the defender and ran after it over the halfway line.  He then played it forward to Tom, who flicked it on to Jay and he beat Olly at the near post 0-5.  Aaron powered his way down the left before cutting inside and he tried to place it rather than go for power, and Olly dived well to force a corner.  Tom played it in to Aaron on the left corner of the 6-yard box, and he just chipped it past Olly 0-6.  Charlie & Bryn won it in our area and played one-twos out of our half before Aaron took it up and laid Tom in, who hit it past Olly 0-7.  They passed it well into our area and Jay tackled back to win the ball, however his older brother saw a foul and awarded a penalty, to which his younger brother stepped forward to take.  Owen hit it high, but Brandon C in goal caught it high to save the penalty.

HALF-TIME: FRYS U11  0    FRYS U13  7

We swapped ‘keepers, and a few other positions…….

The line up was:

Olly

Jay     Callum     Tom

Max     Aaron     Bryn

Brandon     Reece

Substitutes:  Joel & Charlie

A nice passage of play saw the ball played into Aaron in the box.  He laid it out to Brandon T who his it first time with his left foot and it curled goal-wards but it the outside of the stanchion and went out.  Aaron then burst through but was stopped by a great tackle, before Brandon T went through only to see Brandon C dive at his feet and make the save.  Aaron hit a ball into the left for Bryn to chase and he laid it inside for Brandon T to touch past the defender before burying it into the bottom right 0-8.  We played it wide to the right wing for Joel (obviously, where else would we play him!) and he cut inside and got the ball to Aaron to lift past Brandon C 0-9 and his hat-trick.  They then burst into our area and Olly narrowed the angle enough, as when they flicked it past him, it hit the outside of the post and went out.  We failed to close them down and Lewis “Chopper” Holt laid it through to Callum Jones and he buried it in the net 1-9.  Brandon powered down the left and crossed it in to shouts of “Let Joel have it” however Aaron was there first and flicked it goal-wards only to see Brandon C save it.  George Gitsham went down the left and passed it in to Jake Kellaway, and a little shimmy sent the defender the wrong way and he shot across Olly into the bottom left 2-9.  They forced their way into the box and what looked like a fair tackle saw their player fall and the ref blew for a penalty with no hesitation.  George Gitsham stood forward and buried it into the bottom left 3-9.  Callum ran down the left and crossed to where both Joel and Charlie missed it.  Charlie went wide right to retrieve it and crossed it back, however Joel tried a back-heel but only got it straight at Brandon C.  Brandon T then charged forward and shot high, only to see Brandon C pull off another save.  Joel then charged down the left and found Charlie in the middle and he lifted it past Brandon C 3-10.  They attacked down the left and shot across goal, and Olly dived well to push it for a corner.  Callum ran the length of the pitch and crossed it for Joel who tried to flick it with the outside of his foot, but it went over.  Max dived in for a tackle in our area and appeared to miss everyone, however the referee at this point was whistle happy and blew for the fifth penalty.  Lewis “Chopper” Holt stepped forward and this time it was Olly who pulled off a great save.

FULL-TIME: FRYS U11  3    FRYS U13  10

Man of the Match – Chosen by Andy for excellent play and effort – The U11 ‘Keepers

Afterthoughts…………………………………………………

The main demand from me were to pass, and not get injured.  That we achieved, and I know that some will say it was a team two years younger, but I felt we passed it calmly and concisely.  As for the U11’s, they played with passion and vision, and they fought for every ball.  On that evidence, they should have no problems in the first division next year at 11-a-side.  The only thing I felt that they would need to switch on to was the quickly taken throws, kicks and passes that sometimes caught them unawares, but then I remember we were like that when we first stepped up!
