Jack
was still unavailable after his operation, and Joel was away on Cub Camp,
(although would come back in time for the second game, before heading back down
again) so Spike came in to the A Team.
In the B Team, Joel came in where Spike had been and Josef was
rested. St Nick’s ‘B’ had beaten us last
season and had finished above us in the league.
They also beat Lawrence Weston 7-1 where we had only managed 5-4, but
had lost to Deerswood where we had won!
Game
1 - The line up was:
Joby
Spike Callum
Dan Josh
Tom
Joe
Rolling Sub: Luke
A big throw by Joe was
attacked by Tom but his shot was parried wide.
It came out to Joe who crossed it in again and Josh went for it along
with their defender and took a stud to the top of the foot and had to come
off. They took the kick whilst we were
trying to reorganise and managed to get through us and left Joby no chance with
their player through 0-1. Spike won the ball on the left and played a
great ball down the line to Joe. Joe hit
the cross in low and hard and the ‘keeper got there ahead of Dan to grab it. He spilled it in the wet however and Dan got
stuck in. He was able to get the ball
away from the ‘keeper, but in that time a defender had got back and managed to
clear the ball. A poor goal kick was
challenged by Josh and he got it to Tom who shot from 25 yards, however it was
high and wide.
We
went too far forward for a goal kick and the returned ball left Callum
outnumbered. He did his best and forced
a shot which Joby got hold of really well and held onto as attackers piled in. Their goal kick was won by Tom who went wide
and crossed it. Josh and Joe just missed
the ball as it skimmed across the face of the goal. A great run by Tom saw him shoot. It was blocked and came back to Spike who
also tried to shoot but was tackled as he did and they broke. Luke and Spike chased back and put off their
attacker but it came into the area and a shot from the left into the far right
corner was well saved low down by Joby and again he held on to the slippery
ball.
Man of the Match – Chosen by Andy for
excellent play – Luke
Game
2 - The line up was:
Jamie
Sam
B Joel
Jim Sam K
Max
Chilly
Rolling Sub: Mark
We attacked and won a
corner. It was hit in by Jim and Ethan
turned well to shoot, but their defender got his knee in the way and it was
cleared. Jim won the ball and passed it
to Sam K and he in turn got it to Chilly.
Chilly then got the ball back to Jim who had carried on the run and his
shot was saved, however it was a great passage of play by our players. Sam K got the ball to Chilly and he put an
incisive ball through for Max, but just as he was about to pull the trigger, a
defender got back to make the important challenge and clear it for a
corner. We won a throw which Sam K took
over Max for him to turn and run onto, but his shot was too hard and too
high. Sam K attacked down the left wing
which won us a corner. Jim came across to take it and was told
that this was the last before half-time and to get this one right as his
previous attempts had all gone too far, into the side netting or behind our
players. This one was swung in
perfectly, as their defender tried to head it out and put it into his own net 1-0.
Chilly got the ball and
got it down to Max. Max found Sam K who
returned the favour but the ‘keeper got down quickly to make the save. Some great one-two play between Chilly and
Max saw Chilly just denied by the ‘keeper as he got ready to shoot in the area. Sam K then got the ball and went down the right
and put in a lovely cross. Their ‘keeper
came out well to palm it away to where Max was waiting on the edge of the area,
but his shot sailed wide. They attacked
into our left back area. Mark defended
well and got the ball to Sam K. He beat
a player and then launched the ball into the left corner for Chilly to chase. He won the ball, turned the last defender,
ran into the box and calmly slotted it past the ‘keeper at his near post 2-0.
A High clearance by them was brought down well by Sam B who found Chilly
wide. He played in a dangerous cross to
where Max was charging in but again he was challenged as he was about to
shoot. A big drop kick by their ‘keeper
was headed back by Sam K towards Jamie who was stood by his post. Rather than pick it up, he let it go through
his legs for a corner, but more than that, for most of us, through his legs
looked like into the net, but luckily he was the other side of the post!
Man of the Match – Chosen by Andy for excellent
play –
Chilly
