Gone With The Wind              Sunday 19th November 2006

____________________________________________________________________

This was a game that both sides had been looking forward to all season.  We had had an excellent start, theirs not so good, but all that went out of the window for this game.  We had only beaten them 4-1 last time we played, and they had strengthened their team.  This was game 13 for the season, who would it be unlucky for?

Game 1 - The line up was:

Joby

Jack     Callum

Josh     Joel     Tom

Joe

Rolling Subs:  Luke & Dan

After some intense attacking from the Juniors we push forward and Joe swings in a corner which Jack heads just wide.  The Juniors won a throw on the left and threw across field to Jack D.  He took the ball right and then shot for the bottom far left corner and it was nestling in the back of the ‘net 0-1.  We responded to the goal by attacking.  Tom had a shot, which hit their defender on the back and deflected goalwards, which wrong-footed the ‘keeper in the process, but Josh tried to flick it onwards, and only succeeded in pushing it wide.  Jack D took a throw in our left back area, it came back to him and he crossed it hard and low.  Callum tried to clear it but it flew off of him and came to Patrick, and he belted it into the ‘net 0-2.  It was soon halftime, and Andy was grateful of the chance to get to the boys!

HALF-TIME : COLTS   0    JUNIORS   2

We push the game with greater urgency and won a corner.  Joe swung it in, it hit the front post, deflected out slightly, hit Jason, their goalie, and flew into the ‘net 1-2.  They attacked down their right and crossed it in, which evaded everyone and came to Haydn.  Joby flew out to smother it, it came loose, but he dived on it again.  We let them through again and Patrick was in on goal.  Joby came out to narrow the angle and took a ball in the stomach for his pains which left him in a crumpled heap on the floor.  Patrick went after it and turned from a narrow angle, hitting it as he did, and despite Callum’s efforts on the line, the ball ended up in the ‘net 1-3.  The ball was played forward and both Luke and Dan chased it, winning between them and getting it to Josh at a very acute angle, and he turned and shot, but Jason was equal to it.  Jack D was harried into their right corner by Josh who worked hard and won the ball.  He crossed it in and it was cleared as far as Tom, who took a touch and shot for the far right corner 2-3.  From their goal-kick, Tom won it, ran past three players but scuffed the shot and it went wide.  An attack was crossed into their area, Luke had a shot, Dan had a shot and so did Josh, but they had numbers behind the ball and it was eventually cleared.  Tom hit a high ball in, which Jason saved, but dropped under pressure.  Josh followed up but Jason grabbed it just in time.  The ball came in from a corner and as Jason dived out, Jack got their first and buried it into the goal 3-3.  In the melee, a Juniors player fell over Jason, injuring him in the process.  It looked quite a nasty injury, so Nick decided to end the game without restarting as 20 minutes were up.

FULL-TIME : COLTS   3    JUNIORS   3

Man of the Match – Chosen by Andy for excellent play and continuous effort  Josh

Game 2 - The line up was:

Jamie

Sam B     Mark

Spike     Sam K     Max

Chilly

Rolling Subs:  Josef & Jim

A great bit of battling from Max saw him dispossess Ben and he got the ball left to Sam K.  He ran down the line, tried to cross it but it hit a player and came back to him.  Jack F in goal came out to him, but he squared it to where Chilly had an empty net from one yard 1-0 and finally the overall lead.  A bit of battling on the left saw the ball come to Chilly.  He took a touch right and hit it high, and for those of us on our left side of the pitch it looked to have flown in, however it was just wide.  A goal-kick out was won by Sam K.  He one-two’d with Chilly, but dragged his shot wide of the left post.  From defence we came out with Max.  He ran forward and crossed it in to Spike who had it taken off of his foot for a corner as he was just about to shoot.  We then had a throw in our half which was thrown to Jamie.  Despite many calls of “pick it up” he did the correct thing and cleared the ball with his feet, otherwise it would have been an in-direct free kick to them from two yards!  The ball came to Ben about 15 yards out, he controlled it and shot, but Jamie pushed it over the bar.

HALF-TIME : COLTS   1    JUNIORS   0

We won a corner which was cleared to Sam B.  He wellied it, but unfortunately for Spike, it hit him!  They then broke from defence and Jack B went quickly down the right and crossed it in to where James M had an open goal to tap into 1-1.  Sam K threw to Chilly who turned inside and shot, but Jack F made a good save.  With just three minutes to go, they took a goal-kick and it came to Sam B on the halfway line.  He hit the ball high first time over their defenders, and as Jack F came out, Chilly just touched it past him and into the back of the net 2-1.

FULL-TIME : COLTS   2    JUNIORS   1

Man of the Match – Chosen by Andy for a good game & great all round play  Jamie

OVERALL RESULT : COLTS   5    JUNIORS   4

Afterthoughts…………………………………………………

I will admit to being angry at half time of the first game, after asking for desire, I only saw it from the Juniors.  The boys responded well to my anger and the fightback was proof of that.  I felt that we should have won the second game more convincingly, but that is not a criticism of the players, the Juniors defended very well.  This may upset some of the Juniors, but in my eyes, we deserved to win!

As it was the local derby, the Webmaster came down and video’d parts of the game.  This can be seen via the Video Lounge along with other Frys related video’s.
