Sam K was away and Josef was rested, so Jim came into the ‘A’ team with Dan & Josh going the other way.  Yet again we had major goal-net problems which delayed kick-off, but we finally got underway at 10.45am

Game 1 - The line up was:

Joby

Jack     Callum

Jim     Joel     Tom

Joe

Rolling Sub: Luke

Tom won the ball well, got it to Joel who hit it for Joe to chase, and he was able to force a corner.  Joe swung in the corner, Tom headed it towards the far post which it hit and came back into the ‘keeper’s hands.  Tom ran down the right and tried to cross, however it was cleared out to Jack who hit a shot from halfway but it went wide.  Not much happened for a while as we battled in the middle of the field, Jim’s shot the only notable exception.  Tom won the ball and played it through for Joe to chase and he got there at the same time as the ‘keeper, they both went down with the ref deciding on a penalty.  They were up in arms over this decision, however Joe coolly stepped forward and hit it low into the right corner 1-0.  And that was pretty much the highlights of the first half!

Nice defending from Callum got the ball to Joel and he in turn found Jim.  He laid the ball on for Tom who went past the last player and shot high from 15 yards, but the ‘keeper parried it and grabbed it at the second attempt.  Nice work down the right from Luke led to a throw.  Joe launched into the box which Jack headed on.  The ‘keeper went for a catch but was challenged by Joel so only able to parry it and as it dropped outwards Tom volleyed it goalwards, although to be fair the ‘keeper did get his fingertips to it, but not enough 2-0.  They kicked off which Joe attacked and won back.  He gave it to Tom who went past two players, into the box, around the ‘keeper and made it 3-0.  Jack played the ball out of defence to Luke.  He found Tom who hit it for Joe and went for the return which Joe knocked sideways across the pitch and Tom’s first time shot was saved well by the ‘keeper’s legs.  The resultant throw was launched in by Joe and the knockdown came to Luke to hit and again the ‘keeper made a brilliant save with his legs.  Great battling by Callum when outnumbered two to one, saw them forced into an error and the ball in the grateful hands of Joby.

Joe threw into the box and this time Jack headed for goal, but again their ‘keeper made a great save.  They played the ball wide and Joel flew in for the challenge.  Their player missed the ball, but Joel was already committed to the challenge and gave a free kick away.  It was hit high at the goal but Tom on the line headed it clear.  Tom went down the right and shot, which the ‘keeper saved.  Joe followed up and again the ‘keeper saved and then Tom shot from a narrow angle, but it was just too tight and it hit the side netting.  They attacked and as Jack pressurised, Joby dived in and made the save.  A big throw was launched in by Joe, Joel battled and got the shot away, but just the wrong side of the post.

Game 2 - The line up was:

Jamie

Sam B     Mark

Spike     Josh     Max

Chilly

Rolling Sub: Dan

We broke out with a ball to Chilly and he saw Spike haring down the right.  He hit it through, but their defender got back to concede a corner.  Max then volleyed into the box and Spike was just unable to get on the end of it.  Josh played the ball into Chilly and he laid a beautiful pass for Spike, however the wind got hold of it and took it just too far.

HALF-TIME : FRYS   0    CADBURY HEATH   0

We attacked, they cleared and Mark hit it back hard and high which their ‘keeper pushed for a corner.  Chilly played the ball in and Josh got a touch, but it was just the wrong side of the post.  They attacked and Sam B cleared to Dan. He flicked it around his marker, then held off the challenge of two players before finding Chilly, and their big defender was forced to give away a corner.  Max & Josh worked hard together to get the ball wide to the right.  Their big defender was there but Dan had no fear and went to put on pressure, forcing him to kick high to clear, however it went over his head into the middle where Max and Chilly stood waiting alone, Chilly controlled it and hit it high past the ‘keeper 1-0.  Their attacker got the ball and hit a scorcher which Jamie did well to block, it bounced up in the crowd and Jamie reached high into it and grabbed the ball.

Max forced their ‘keeper to parry a shot and Josh chased in, forcing them to give away a corner.  Sam B won the ball halfway, went past two payers and hit a thunderbolt which their ‘keeper saved again with his legs.  We defended a corner and Jamie came out and missed.  There were then about five players trying to squeeze into the space where one ball should be and eventually it was cleared.  They got into our box and had a shot.  Another player near Jamie lifted his leg at the vital point and it went unsighted into the far corner 1-1.  A corner came in which Jamie missed, but Josh on the line cleared for a throw.  It was hurled goalwards, again Jamie was unable to get it and again Josh on the line cleared it.  Josh won the ball from a throw, went past a player and shot, but their big defender blocked on the line.

Afterthoughts…………………………………………………

As the match went on we created more and more chances and their ‘keepers made plenty of stops.  This was a good all-round performance and points to better things when we finally get to big goals.  Well done all!
