The Untouchables       Sunday 22nd April 2007

____________________________________________________________________

Josef was rested and Spike was away.  Mark and Joel swapped teams.  These had inflicted our first League defeat of the season only a month earlier.  Would that memory help or hinder us?

Game 1 - The line up was:

Joby

Jack     Callum

Mark     Josh     Tom

Joe

Rolling Sub: Luke

The ball was played back to Jack from kick off and he went wide to Mark.  Mark and Josh combined very well to allow Josh a shot which was deflected for a corner.  Joe took the corner, the ‘keeper parried it and it dropped at the back post where….. no one was waiting and it was cleared.  They then attacked and suddenly Callum was facing three.  He won the ball and made the clearance.  We won another corner, Joe took it again, this time Josh came diving in at the back post, but their ‘keeper managed to palm it beyond him.  Joe then launched a massive throw into the box which Tom headed on.  Jack met it with a header which the ‘keeper palmed down, so Jack struck it as hard as he could, but unfortunately it was at the ‘keeper.  Jack chipped a ball to the right which Joe chased and hit first time with his right foot.  Yes, you heard correctly, his RIGHT foot.  Unfortunately, the ‘keeper made the save.  Joe then chased another ball into the corner and squared it to Tom.  He went past one player but the ‘keeper got a hand to it as he tried to go around him, and it rolled agonisingly beyond the reach of Josh.  Their star Jelani, playing in the first game this time went down the left, past three players and then laid it back from the bye-line for their forward to blast into the net 0-1 in what was probably their first attack of the game.  Tom played a great ball through for Joe to chase, but his shot was pushed for a throw.  He took the throw, but Tom’s header wasn’t on target.  Joe then launched another throw which Josh flicked a heel at, but again their ‘keeper reacted quickly to make the save.  A long throw to Tom was flicked inside to Joe, but his shot was just the wrong side of the post.  Joe worked hard in the corner, turned in and ran right to left across the goal then hit a reverse shot which hit the right upright and went out.

HALF-TIME : FRYS   0    FDS   1

Tom won the ball and ran into players.  He seemed to lose it but it spun out to Joe.  Tom continued his run and Joe played it back first time and Tom struck it on the run low past the ‘keeper 1-1.  Joe worked down the left and crossed to Tom in space, but a defender cut it out, then Josh received the ball from a throw, but his shot was saved.  Josh won the ball and found Tom, who ran past the defender and shot, but the ‘keeper saved with his stomach.  They were suddenly on the attack and it was three onto two, however Callum made the tackle, forcing the ball loose, and Jack cleared.  Joby took a big goal kick which Tom headed on.  We all shouted to Joe to cross, but he took a shot instead and it went straight through the ‘keeper’s legs 2-1.  A big kick by Joby saw Tom battling with Jelani.  Tom won the ball and found Joe who returned it further up the field, for Tom to beat the last two players and pass it past the ‘keeper 3-1.

Game 2 - The line up was:

Jamie

Sam B     Joel

Jim     Sam K     Max

Chilly

Rolling Sub: Dan

We attacked quickly and Jim, Max and Chilly were in on two defenders.  Jim found Chilly, who went wide again to Jim.  He crossed to Max and as he tried to shoot, their defender blocked for a corner.  A high ball was played into the box which Max chased.  He went in bravely with the ‘keeper, but got injured doing so, however the ball spun loose and as it was going away from goal at quite a narrow angle, Chilly got there and hit it on the spin into the net 1-0.  Their attacker went through, jinking left and right to create space for a shot, which he finally took, but Jamie was equal to it.  A big throw from them bounced twice past our players, but heir attacker on the back post was leaning back as he shot from close range and it went over.  Another ball into our area wasn’t cleared and the attacker on the back post was only denied by a brave dive from Jamie.

HALF-TIME : FRYS   1    FDS   0

Dan ran down the right, played a one-two with Chilly, then crossed in to where Chilly was making the run, but their ‘keeper was out quickly to make the save.  The ball came to Chilly in the middle and he found Dan on the right.  Dan played a one-two with Chilly and shot on the return, but it was parried to Sam, who found Max, but the shot was blocked.  The ball came forward to the halfway line where Chilly was.  He was challenged and injured, but managed to find Max, who beat their last defender and chipped it into the far left corner of the net 2-0.  Max played it in to Chilly who went wide to Sam K.  He found Dan who shot, which was parried and Max followed up, but the ‘keeper just managed to grab it.  He launched a quick counter-attack, past our defenders and past Jamie’s dive, but Dan had gotten all the way back and cleared off the line, then Joel and Jamie cleared up.  They were through again and Joel tackled one player but it came to another and Jamie dived down really well to make the save.

Afterthoughts…………………………………………………

What a difference two days can make.  The ‘A’ fought for everything for Forty minutes and set up the score that allowed the ‘B’ to play attacking football without having to worry about getting goals, a lack of worry which led us to score them!  As for the previous FDS result, the conditions on that day were a real leveller, although taking nothing away from them as they played well.  This time they switched Jelani to the ‘A’ team, which benefited us ultimately and he was much less of an influence.
