The
Magnificent 7 Friday 11th May

With
the Juniors doing us a massive favour at the weekend by beating St Nicks, it
meant that a win at this game would win us the League, before we had to go to
St Nicks on Sunday. A draw or defeat
would leave us having to win on Sunday!
The rain was absolutely hammering down, so would that have an effect on
the game?
Game
1 - The line up was:
Joby
Jack Callum
Josh Joel
Tom
Joe
Rolling Subs: Luke &
Dan
Callum
won the ball and passed it forward to Tom.
He beat two players and got it through to Joe and as a player came from his right, he got it onto his left
and beat the ‘keeper into the corner 1-0. A quick breakout saw Tom get the ball out to
Josh on the right. He ran forward and
crossed in to Tom, who let it go past to Joe, misdirecting two defenders as he
did. Joe beat a player, had a shot, it
deflected up and bounced to the back post where Josh was just unable to get to
it, however we got a corner. Joe floated
it in and everyone left it and it came to Josh at the back, but he was charged
down. Josh won the ball and played it
into the right corner for Joe. Joe
turned back and spotted Tom who had made a full length pitch dash and crossed
it in perfectly for Tom to meet
three yards out and smash it in 2-0. Joe overhead kicked it to Joel who found Tom,
and his cross in hit Josh a yard out, but just behind him and it ricocheted out
for a goal-kick. Joe ran hard to
retrieve a ball into the corner and turned for goal. Josh ran all the way to create the chance,
but Joe went alone and beat the
‘keeper at the near post 3-0. Joe went out to the right to get the ball,
turned back and crossed it in, for Josh
right on the line to head in 4-0.
Jack
hit the ball from inside our half over everyone. Joe on his own brought the ball down really
well, turned and from three yards out hit the miss of the season (just like Max
last week) high over the bar. They kept
trying however and a ball through was forced wide by Joby quickly off of his
line. Josh received a head injury and
play was stopped. From the restart, Joel
won it, played it into Dan who flicked it around one defender, went past
another and crossed in to where two players were charging in, however their
‘keeper just got there. Jack took a big
throw which Tom flicked on to Joe and he tried a near post shot but it went the
wrong side of the post. By now the rain
had become torrential, however we continued and their ‘keeper took a massive
drop kick which came down ten yards inside our half to where Callum met it on
the volley and their ‘keeper had to react well to parry it down and grab it at
the second attempt. Dan blocked a shot
on the line and Jack played a great ball forward to Tom. He passed it inwards and the ‘keeper got
there just ahead of Joe. At this point
Andy, Mitch Dan Payne and Alison were all sheltering under her umbrella, it
really was coming down! Dan came back to
be the defender for our corner and as it came out he hit it and it just missed
the left post. Joe on the right found
Tom in the middle, but his rising shot was narrowly wide. From their drop kick Tom won it wide, went
past two players and crossed in to Joe who tried to pass it past the ‘keeper
first time, but the ‘keeper reacted well and made the save. Tom won the ball from their throw three yards
from our goal and went for it. Past three
players before hitting it the wrong side of the right post.

excellent play and effort – Joe
Game
2 - The line up was:
Jamie
Sam
B Mark
Jim Sam K
Max
Chilly
Rolling Subs: Spike &
Josef
Max
& Chilly worked hard into their corner to win a throw but Sam K spotted Sam
B just inside our half. Threw to him and
he chipped it in for Chilly to knock on and Max to get his toe to it, but not
quite enough to direct it in. For a
while the game was very flat as our players seemed not bothered. Perhaps the first game result left them
thinking it was already won, who knows.
They did eventually start to lift themselves out of their stupor and
good work by Chilly and max led to a throw.
Sam K took it to Chilly who played it across field to Mark to
shoot. It was blocked and came back on
his left foot and he hit it again first time, but the ‘keeper caught it. They broke quickly from this and a scorcher
of a shot fizzled just wide.
A
bit of a rocket from the manager at half-time meant the boys came out for the
second half in a much more determined manner!
A big kick out was won by Sam K and he pushed forward. His ball in found Max who seemed to be
tripped but managed to carry on and shot.
The ‘keeper saved the ball and it looked to heading out for a corner,
but Max got there and hit the ball
on the turn into the corner of the net 1-0. Max then attacked down the left and crossed
inside for Jim who hit it with the outside of his right boot, but the ‘keeper
made the save and pushed it out for a throw.
Sam K tried to throw to Sam B again but they were too far apart and a
defender raced onto it and in the end Jamie had to dive to his left to concede
a corner. They got the ball and turned,
and whilst we were slow to react, their player punted it and Jamie got down low
to his left to make another good save.
Sam B took a quick throw for Max
to chase. He muscled past a defender,
cut onto his left and shot, however it hit a defender, deflected up, and flew past
the ‘keeper who had dived for the original shot 2-0. By now the rain had
stopped, the sun had come out and the boys were singing “We Are The
Champions!” and the “Okey Cokey” Spike and Sam K worked well and left Spike
with a twenty yard shot, which Chilly on the line tried to flick past the
‘keeper but he missed it. Mark played
the ball to Jim, who battled hard with the help of Max to get it wide to
Josef. Josef chipped it in towards goal
and both Chilly and the ‘keeper went for it.
Chilly got there first and
just lifted it past the ‘keeper 3-0. A corner came in and Spike hit it high, but
just the wrong side of the post. When
the final whistle blew the ‘A’ team charged onto the pitch and celebrations
erupted. Dave K had kindly brought a
bottle of Bucks Fizz which was duly sprayed over all of the players. Champions at last!
