Strange Days              Sunday 26th August 2007

____________________________________________________________________

And so to our 2nd game.  People still away meant that Kyle, Clappy & Aaron again turned out for us, although Callum Churches made a guest appearance for them.  Due to late arrivals we finally kicked off at 11.00am.

The line up was:

Joel

Mickey

Spike     Jack

Josh     Sam K     Tom     Max

Kyle

Chilly     Dan

Substitute: Aaron

From the centre Spike won it and got it to Max.  He looked around and saw no one however Tom came towards him on the inside and that’s where he passed it.  Tom saw the ball through for Chilly and went for it, however Callum got across to defend for Deerswood, however it was great long passing.  Max got the ball on the left and played it down the line for Sam K and he crossed.  Everyone missed it but Josh had got down the left and so returned it in.  Kyle got the ball with his back to goal and laid it back for Jack to hit it and the ‘keeper made the save.  Kyle found Dan and he played it through for Sam K, however with Max in the middle waiting, we were adjudged offside.  Aaron attacked at them and then stopped.  They stopped as well as Kyle sprinted past and took the ball with him to cross, but they were there to clear for a corner.  Chilly won the ball from the corner but had his back to goal.  Max went left so Chilly found him, but the shot went just wide.  They then broke down their right with real pace and both Mickey and Jack had to chase hard into our area to slide in as the shot was about to happen.  It rolled to Joel who licked it up for a drop kick, however it only went as far as the edge of the area and their player brought it down and shot back as high as he could and it crept in under the crossbar 1-0.  Sam won the ball in the middle from their free kick and found Tom.  He raced in on goal and shot.  The ‘keeper made a great save but could only parry it and Chilly had followed up to make sure 1-1.  Tom won the ball on the halfway line and held onto it to allow our players to get back onside.  He then played it down the left for Chilly to chase, and although his first time left foot cross was blocked it came back to him and so Chilly laid it back out to Max who hit it as hard and high as he could for the far right post.  It looked like it was going to go just wide, but Josh stole in at the back post and headed it in 1-2.

HALF-TIME : DEERSWOOD   1    FRYS   2

Kyle won the ball out on the left, crossed it across field to Tom who ran at goal, and although we had players swarming in Tom elected to try to beat the ‘keeper at the near post and saw it rebound off of the ‘keeper’s legs.  He received more than a few dodgy looks from our players who had ran into the middle!  We then had the mother of all goalmouth scrambles!  Tom was brought down out on the right and so Kyle chipped it in.  The ‘keeper parried it and there then followed at least six attempts on goal whilst they had virtually their whole team between us and the goal and in the end it was cleared.  They won a corner which was floated in.  Tom tried to control it on his chest, however it ran away from him and they crossed it in for a tap in 2-2.  Tom then won the ball on the halfway line and attacked towards goal.  Callum came across to stop him and the ‘keeper came out but Tom managed to get his shot away which flew up from the ‘keeper and Tom reacted first to knock it into the open net 2-3.  They took a goal kick wide to Max who won it and went down the wing.  He crossed it in and it evaded everyone except Aaron at the back post who controlled it with his right, then prodded it in with his left 2-4.  The same move was repeated after Mickey found Max, only this time the shot went just over.  An offside decision just inside our half saw Mickey clip the ball over the top and any one of three chasing could have got it.  Aaron was first and he then knocked it past the ‘keeper and went around him to score 2-5.  Max then cross/shot and the ‘keeper parried it to Chilly who shot, but the ‘keeper recovered to make a good save.

FULL-TIME : DEERSWOOD   2    FRYS   5

Man of the Match – Chosen by Andy for excellent play and effort  Aaron & Max

Afterthoughts…………………………………………………

Again not a good test of our players as a team because so many were still missing.  That said, it was a hard match and another good run out for our players who linked well together and showed encouraging signs of adapting to the big pitch.
