For What It’s Worth Sunday 16th

We
lost in the League, and then in the Cup.
We had to bounce back quickly, but this again was no easy task. The wind was very strong and we were into it
in the first half.
The
line up was:
Joby
Sam
B Callum Jack
Joel
Josh Sam K
Tom Max
Joe Chilly
Substitutes: Dan, Mark
& Spike
They
attacked down our right and Joby was forced into an early parry, where first
Callum then Jack blocked to force a corner.
It was cleared, however they won it back, attacked down the right wing
and crossed it in to where an Oldland player was un-marked, and how he missed
only he knows! They won a free kick on
the right. Their player hit it high and
hard and it dropped over Joby, who had come off of his line to challenge an
attacker and bounced between two defenders stood on the line and in. For some inexplicable reason they then both
looked around at me! 0-1.
They were suddenly through again, however Joby raced off of his line and
made the clearance. It reached the
half-way line where Sam K brought it down and turned quickly. He ran right and then crossed it
inwards. It went behind Chilly but this
deceived their defence and it ran to Joe in a little bit of space. Joe
took one touch out from under him and he hit it hard and high, just over the
‘keeper’s arms and into the net 1-1. There then followed a sustained bit of
pressure from us as we passed the ball around well and both Joe and Sam K had
shots, however these were blocked and they cleared long, suddenly finding
themselves through. Despite Joby’s best
efforts it was in the net 1-2. We had a throw, but we lost the ball and they
hit it long with the wind and were through again 1-3. Josh won the ball on
the right and laid it down the line for Sam K to run onto. He hit it across and Chilly’s shot was
blocked wide to where Max was running in, however their defender got there and
cleared it for a corner.
They
were through almost immediately and Joby came right out to the edge of his area
so they shot, and Joby reacted really quickly to dive to his left and save
it. For some reason Spike decided to
clear across goal and it came to their player who shot high. We feared the worst as the wind seemed to
hold it up to drop in, however it just went the other side before it
dropped. The ball flew across our box
and Jack got his foot in. There was then
a mass melee, but Callum got the important tackle as they went to shoot and the
ball was cleared. Joby kicked long but
their midfield won it and returned the favour.
Joby came out, but their attacker got there first to hit it high, and
this time the wind was in their favour as it slowed its flight, allowing it to
drop in 1-4. Their ‘keeper was struggling to clear with
his kicks into the wind and Joe found Dan, but he was tackled as he tried to
shoot. By this time, Jack and Callum
looked really tired but ran as hard as they could. They had a shot and Joby dived backwards to
push the ball onto the bar and as it came down Callum got in to clear it.
Man of the Match – Chosen by Andy for
excellent play and effort – Joby & Callum
