Keep Chipping Away Sunday 12th September 2004 ____________________________________________________________________
This game was not about
football, it was about the manager v manager, Kim & Dick took a team each as kick off times were the
same. It was very windy.
Game 1 - The line up was:
Dave & Kim’s team
Sam B (Sam K)
Callum Dan Whooley Josef
Dan C Sam K (Sam B) Max
Rolling Sub: Madison Walsh
Chippenham attaked from the
start and it needed a good clearance from Dan W, however, Chippenham won it
back. Next, Sam in goal needed to make
two good saves.
Sam K took a throw to Dan C
and he ran forward with the ball, passed back to Sam K but his shot was
wide. Dan W then won a throw which he
took to Dan C who attacked but it was cleared, and the wind was getting
stronger. We then attacked down the
flanks and a cross in was met by a great header from Sam K but it didn’t go
in. It was by now getting colder. Dan & Max & Josef all combined well
in an attack which ended with Dan C hitting the post with his shot. Right on the stroke of half time, Chippenham
got an equaliser 1-1.
Josef, Dan W & Max started strongly in the
second half with a joint attack which was eventually cleared. Dan W lost a stud and had to stop for a
while. Sam B took a strong corner but
nobody made any contact and Chippenham attacked with the ball. Luckily, Callum was on hand and won the ball
back well. He was then also tackled and
Sam K was forced to make a great save.
From his kick, Sam B and Max led the next attack together before Sam was
fouled and ended up led on the ball!
The ball was played forward and Callum hit a
ferocious shot which came back for Dan C to shot but it was cleared and
chippenham attacked. This time it was
Dan W who cleared the ball. Forward it
went again and Dan C’s shot again hit the post.
Man of the Match – Chosen by the Ref’ for excellent play –
Callum Payne
Game 2 - The line up was:
Dick & Steve B
Joe B
Sam P Patrick Delaney Luke A
Ethan
Rolling Subs: Jack Burgoyne
The game kicked off and Fry’s
were instantly on the attack with a great through ball from Patrick. Chippenham then won the ball and their shot
went just past the post. Luke then
played a great ball into Ethan but his shot was saved by the ‘keeper. Chippenham then had a corner but it was
cleared well with a Josh header. Patrick
then won the ball, passed to Luke who played it through to Ethan and his rasping
shot ricocheted off of the crossbar and unluckily out of play.
Chippenham attacked and
The pressure was still on
however and both Jordn and Josh needed to be at their best to stop
Chippenham. Ethan then made a good break
with assistance from Josh and when the ball came back Ethan’s shot was well
saved. Down the other end and an
excellent low save from Joby stopped another goal. Josh passed to Ethan and again his shot was
saved. Chippenham then broke quickly and
left Joby with no chance 4-1. The grey clouds started to gather but it
didn’t put off Joby who made another excellent save. His ball out was passed through to Luke, who ran and lifted the ball over
the goalies head 4-2.
From the restart, Ethan made a break for their goal
but was tackled. The resulting
counter-attack led to a fifth Chippenham goal 5-2. Luke and Ethan combined
well again but couldn’t get a shot in.
Patrick and Jack were then both called into action in defence and
defended admirably. Sam threw to Ethan
and they both attacked, to much squealling from the crowds, but to no
avail. The squeals were back moments
later and this time Ethan made sure
of it 5-3. Ethan then had another
shot but again it was saved.
They then had a period of attack and first Jack,
then Jordan and Luke defended well. Joby
then followed up with a good save.
Jordan won the rebound and passed forwards to Luke and Ethan but both
thought that the other would get it and the ball was lost. Patrick cleared the ball well but eventually
it came back with venom 6-3. From our kick, Ethan attacked but was
fouled. Josh took the kick and delivered
a great cross but to no avail. Jack and
Jordan then needed to be alert to stop another Chippenham attack. Luke then had a shot but it was just wide. Near the end Jack and Patrick defended well
before Joby made one last fine save.
Man of the Match – Chosen by the ref’ for excellent play –
Joe Bray
From what
I heard and have been told, these were great performances against nice
opposition in not the best weather conditions.
Both teams should take credit for the effort and commitment that they
showed and we were unlucky in the end with the overall score. 1-0 to Kim then!
