The Players United Will Never
Be Defeated! Sunday 21st November 2004 ____________________________________________________________________
Down to the Lakes ground for
possibly the last time as Portishead enter a different league next year. That said, there are always friendlies.
Game 1 - The line up was:
Jamie G
Mark Jack
Josef Sam P
Ethan
Sam K
Rolling Subs: Sam B, Dan
& James
The misty rain that has
accompanied our journey to Portishead (indeed seems to go with every journey to
Portishead!) had stopped just before kick off.
They were quickly on the attack but were stopped by some good defending
from Jack. Ethan then played a lovely
ball through to Sam K but he was unable to get his shot away. Portishead responded with a weak shot which
somehow eluded everyone and trickled into the net 1-0. Portishead then had a
free-kick but luckily it rebounded off of the post and out. They then had two consecutive shots. Jamie elected not to use his hands on either
and the second of the two went past him 2-0.
Sam B launched into a run down the wing but was
unable to cross the ball. They then
attacked and had a speculative high shot which was coming down into Jamie’s
hands. His arms were too wide apart
however and they went through to find his legs also apart, and bounced down
through them and into the goal 3-0. We
tried the same from a long kick out, but Ethan just couldn’t reach it. Portishead then had another rasping shot but
this time Jamie was equal to it. Sam B
then had a free kick but it was deflected away for a corner. They attacked again and James was there to
stop them. We finally woke up as a team
and started to attack in a concerted way, only for the ref’ to blow for
full-time!

Game 2 - The line up was:
Sam B (Jack)
Callum Oscar
Luke A Jamie C
Joe C
Rolling Subs: Max
We attacked from the start
and a corner from Joe came to Jim, but his shot was wide. Portishead tried to attack, but Oscar was
there to stop them. Joe then played in Luke and his shot into the top left was
never going to be saved 0-1.
Jim then took the ball past
the last defender, but his shot was wide.
Portishead still looked dangerous on the break, but Callum was imperious
in defence, not letting anyone past. Joe
went down the wing and crossed to Max but his shot was saved. Max then took a short corner to
We started passing as we had in the first half and
Portishead were finding it hard to get the ball. Joe took a corner and Callum saw his shot
just wide. Joe then took a throw which
came to Luke and his shot came back
off the left post and into the net 0-3. Max then had a shot which hit the post, but Luke followed up for his hat-trick 0-4.
The ‘keeper then kicked the ball out not very far and it came down to Joe.
He controlled it with one touch and hit it back over the ‘keeper with
the next 0-5. Portishead attacked and crossed from the
right, but Jack in goal cleared.
Max then had a speculative shot which somehow squeezed
under the ‘keeper and appeared to go over the line before he could turn and
grab it. We wouldn’t have complained if
it had not been given, but Portishead are the fairest team I have ever met, and
their ref’ gave the goal 0-6. Jim then had a swerving shot blocked before
crossing the ball to Luke only to see the shot hit the post and go out. We then played the ball wide to Joe on the left and he hit it hard and
high 0-7. Oscar was up front looking for his first goal
at this point leaving Callum back on his own where he was called upon to defend
right at the end.
Man of the Match – Chosen by Andy for excellent play –
Jordan Harris
For some
reason the first game featured Portishead against some sleeping players. On another day those goals wouldn’t have gone
in and some of our chances would have.
The second game needs no comment, it was great to watch!
