Of Sighs

Trowbridge,
the very name struck fear into our hearts.
Earlier in the season we had been on the end of a 14-2 mauling, whilst
at the same time being comprehensively outplayed.
Had we improved? The
Dictaphone was forgotten so Sue Pike kindly took notes for the first game,
followed by Anita.
Game
1 - The line up was:
Joby
Jack
Oscar
Spike
Luke
A
Rolling
Subs: Sam K & Callum
We
started out with some good tackling from Max, but then they got the ball and
we couldn’t stop them 0-1.
They attacked again and this time it was Oscar at his best to clear.
We then finally attacked and good interplay between Spike & Jordan
forced blocks from their ‘keeper. Spike
was then in with good tackling but it was saved by their ‘keeper.
We then defended well as a team to clear, although not for long and
Joby made a fine save from a rasping shot.
Under a lot of pressure, both Jack & Oscar cleared well.
We were tenacious with our tackling with Jordan, Max & Spike
getting on the action. Trowbridge
were still an attacking threat all of this time however and Joby was forced
into a fine reaction save. Next
Jack defended well to play the ball up field, then Luke, with the help of
The
one way traffic didn’t let up in the second half with first Jordan, then
Oscar tackling well and passing up field to our players.
Sam K & Jordan combined well before the shot was blocked.
Then Callum passed to Spike, and he passed on to Max but the move broke
down. They attacked again and
Joby was injured making the save. After
some treatment however, he recovered. Spike
threw to Sam K and he laid it through to Max, but his shot was wide.
Max threw in and Sam K headed on, but it was cleared for a corner.
Sam took it to Callum who crossed in for Max, but it was cleared.
Sam K, Spike & Jordan then combined well for a shot which whistled
just wide. Back to our end and
some stout hearted defending by Spike & Callum wasn’t enough to stop
them finally scoring again 0-4.
Spike
threw to Max who ran downfield and shot, but it was saved.
We then had a free kick for a foul on Sam K.
Max took it and Sam met the ball with his head, but it went over the
bar. Oscar and Jack then combined
well to get the ball forward to Max but his shot was blocked.
Jack then won the ball and played it forward to Sam K but he was
tackled. They then had a shot,
but Jack cleared it off of the line. Spike
then chased well to stop Trowbridge from winning a corner.
They won it back eventually, and a high cross was headed in 0-5.
Callum & Luke then played a nice one-two before getting the ball
forward nicely to Sam K, but he was crowded out.
Under pressure again and Luke & Spike combined well to clear.
Luke went on a run, then both Jack & Sam had shots.
Sam K then played the ball across the field to Luke, but his shot was
wide.

Game
2 - The line up was:
Jamie
James
Mark
Ethan
Sam B Jim
Josef
Rolling
Subs: Josh & Joe
As
with the game down there, we were under pressure from the start with Jamie
making a good save. Then both
James & Spike worked well together in defence.
Jim then went on a good run up the wing, but too many Trowbridge
players were there, and he was crowded out.
Sam B did get hold of the ball though, but his shot was wide.
They attacked whilst we were getting back however and gave Jamie no
chance 0-1. Jim
tried the same route again, but met with the same response, then both James
& Sam B combined well to clear. Jamie
punted right up pitch and Jim was in with the ‘keeper rushing out, but he
was unable to convert the chance. There
was then a melee in our area, but Jamie cleared.
Jim chased it, but his shot was wide.
Mark then defended well, passing to Josef who played it on to Joe but
it was cut out. Josh then played
in Joe, but their defence were too strong.
We lost possession and they struck very quickly 0-2.
James defended well and then had to run back and block again, whilst
Mark came in to tidy up. Josh got
the ball and went for goal, but his shot was also wide.
Mark then lobbed the ball into the area.
It bounced around and Josh tried to get on the end of it, but it just
wouldn’t go in.
Trowbridge
attacked from the kick, and although Jamie made the save, he could only parry
the ball and they were the first to react 0-3.
They then won a corner, but James and Ethan cleared the danger, and
then Ethan charged forward with the help of Joe & Josh but the final shot
was saved. Sam B was then called
upon to do some defending, but they kept coming and soon got another 0-4.
Jamie then pulled off another great save and Josh got the ball and ran
down the wing, eventually forcing a corner.
There was a period of good attacking play, exemplified by both Josh
& Sam B, but we couldn’t score. Josef
passed to Ethan, and as his cross went in, Sam B decided to lie on their
player! It stopped their player
from getting the ball! Ethan had
a run and shot, but it wasn’t strong enough.
Jamie was then left exposed at the back, and although he pulled off one
great save, he couldn’t stop the follow up 0-5.
Josh then had another shot and this one hit the post.
Jim followed up, but his shot went wide.
Sam B took on several Trowbridge players before passing wide to Ethan
but his shot was blocked. We had
committed too many players forward however and they broke away to score with
no one defending 0-6. Right on
full time, they managed to sneak another 0-7.

Mark Gratton
We
played much better than down there and made them look quite ordinary.
That said, they again beat us by 12 goals.
Sometimes your luck just isn’t in.
Incredible as it may seem, we should have won the 0-7 defeat!
