A
Warm Reception
Sunday
20th March 2005 ____________________________________________________________________
There
was a car accident on the Keynsham to Bitton road, which held up everybody
from this side of the river. Jack
Dancey came along for a game. I
bet he wishes he hadn’t now….
Game
1 - The line up was:
Joby
James
Mark Sam
B
Ethan
Callum
Josef
Rolling
Subs: Joe C, Josh & Jack Dancey
Warmley
started very strongly but a good tackle from Mark stopped them.
They came at us again and we were unable to do anything about it 1-0.
Warmley piled on the pressure and it took an excellent diving save from
Joby to thwart them. Josef then
came up with a novel way of stopping the ball going into the net, he used his
face! Sam B then had to be alert
to clear the ball. Josef and
Ethan then combined well down the right wing but the ball was lost, and as
Warmley swarmed into our half, Mark got the important touch.
Mark was then in the right place again with the help of Sam B to stop
another attempt. It was all one
way at this stage and despite our valiant efforts, the second was always
coming 2-0.
We
contained them for a while and we felt that, 20 yards out should be a position
we could defend from. Unfortunately,
they had other ideas and a shot from distance rose all of the way into the net
3-0.
Callum and James then combined to stop them but the pressure was
incessant and it was soon 4-0, the
5-0 and after three consecutive
saves, Joby just couldn’t keep out the next 6-0.
Just before half-time Joby again pulled off some magnificent point
blank saves.
Josh
started the second half as we had finished the first, defending!
James passed to Joe and he played Josh through but he was tackled as he
tried to shoot. Warmley came
right back at us and just ran through our defence 7-0.
Warmley then had a long shot but Joby pulled off a great save.
The next save was from the same top drawer!
Josh attacked down the wing but the ball was cleared and from the
break, Joby pulled off another brilliant save.
He was left exposed too much however and 8-0
was swiftly followed by the next 9-0.
Joby
made another save and set Joe on a run up the wing, but he was crowded out.
Sam B was then injured by a push in the mouth and we had a brief
respite whilst he received treatment. Jack
shot from the free-kick but the ‘keeper caught it.
The ball then came down from the ‘keeper’s kick wide on the right
and Jack leathered it hard and high. It
bounced, deceiving the ‘keeper and would have been a goal but for being a
foot the wrong side of the post. Josh
went on a run and the team committed with him, leaving Warmley to break 10-0.
Mark was then there again with some solid defending and Joby made the
final block.

Game
2 - The line up was:
Jamie
G
Oscar
Tom
Dan
Sam
K
Rolling
Subs: Jack Y & Luke A
Right
from the start, we could see that their second team were not a patch on their
first! Tom defended well as they
tried to score. Tom then went on
a run but was unable to get the shot in.
Warmley then had a twenty yard shot through a crowded defence, but no
one seemed able to get their foot to it 1-0.
Luke defended well however and went on a run down the wing to earn us a
throw. Dan played a good ball to
Jack and he then attacked and got us a corner.
The ball came out and Spike had a go, but wide.
By this time it was all us, but they did still have chances, one of
their shots hitting the post and coming out of the danger area.
Spike then passed well to Luke, but he was unable to shoot.
Then the ball was hit high and as it came down it was leathered at
Luke’s head. It was a great
header, it’s just a shame he knew nothing about it!
Jamie made a great goal line save before Oscar put in an important
challenge.
Virtually
straight from the kick off, Sam K and Tom won the ball and attacked.
The shot finally came from Sam
K 1-1.
Warmley tried to get back on level terms straight away, but Jamie was
quickly out to clear it. Sam K
then had another shot, but their ‘keeper made a good save.
The ball was then thrown to Sam K and his cracking shot hit the post.
Tom then made sure Warmley didn’t score by running, sliding, taking
out their player. Tom then won
the ball in our defence, and as he passed forward, he was taken out by their
player, off of the ball, in a revenge attack.
Spike was then taken out and won a free-kick.
The ball came down in the Warmley area and Sam K tried a spectacular
overhead kick, but the ‘keeper was equal to it.
Spike finished well by stopping a Warmley shot.

Man
of the Match – Chosen
by Andy for excellent play –
Jamie Godwin
There
is just no way that they were 10 goals better than us under normal conditions.
Today however was not normal. Most
of the team seemed asleep for the first game.
Warmley did drop players at the start of the season to strengthen their
team and it is obvious that their first team are the strong ones.
That said, we capitulated far too easily in the first game, and
didn’t finish the chances that our possession gave us in the second!
