We
Are Hen-Pecked
Sunday 3rd
April 2005 ____________________________________________________________________
Joby
was made captain for the day, and Sam P officially became known as Spike!
Game
1 - The line up was:
Joby
James
Mark Callum
Max
Jim
Josef
Rolling
Subs: Joe C & Josh
Frys
attacked from the start, but we weren’t able to get through.
Henbury came at us, but both James and Mark stood firm.
We then got lots of players behind the ball, but it meant that Joby was
un-sighted, and he didn’t see the shot until it was too late 1-0.
Max went on a good run, and then Josef passed back to Max and he played
it through, but no one was able to get there.
Henbury came back strong, and a shot hit the inside of the right post,
across, hit the inside of the left post, and then rolled out, where it was
cleared. James & Callum then
defended well, as Henbury looked to extend their lead.
We hit a ball high into their area, but no one managed to get to it.
Henbury had another shot and it deflected off James and through
Joby’s legs, although in all honesty, neither of them could have done
anything about it! 2-0.
Joe, Josh & Max then all combined well, but the final shot was
wide.
James
passed the ball through to Joe but he was unlucky with his shot.
Jim then went on a run and crossed it in, but no one was there to
finish it. Callum stopped two
players who were through and gave it to Josef, who attacked well.
The ball was then played through, and Joe was one on one with the
‘keeper. They both raced for
it, both got it at the same time, but the result was that it went wide.
Joe wasn’t going to be
denied long however, and he hit a shot from 15 yards, which flew in off of the
top left post 2-1.
Jim then put Joe through
and his shot went in off of the top right corner 2-2.
Henbury responded well and a stinging shot wasn’t held by Joby, but
he spun quickly and grabbed it. Joe
went on a run, crossed in to Josh, but the ‘keeper saved.
Callum played Max in but he was tackled as he bore down on goal.
Mark played in Max, and he slipped it to Joe, but he was tackled as he
teed it up. Mark then played in
Joe, but the ‘keeper saved the shot. A
corner came in which Max hit, but the ‘keeper got it.
Right at the death, a Henbury player sprinted down the right wing past
three challenges and hit it just inside the post 3-2.
We had one final response, but Joe’s free kick went in to the side
netting.

Game
2 - The line up was:
Jamie
G
Sam
B Spike
Tom
Dan
Rolling
Subs: Jack Y, Sam K & Luke A
Henbury
started strongly but we defended as a team and cleared their attack.
We then had an attack and their ‘keeper was out of position, but no
one was able to capitalise. Spike
ran with the ball and got it through towards Sam B, but their ‘keeper rushed
out and just got there first. Then
on his next attack, Sam B was taken out.
Henbury came back at us and had a good shot, which Jamie did very well
to save. Tom played Dan through,
but he was crowded out. They then
attacked en masse, and despite both Jamie’s and Sam B’s valiant efforts,
the ball wound up in the back of the net 1-0.
We then went forward, and when the inevitable break came, Jamie was
left exposed and given no chance 2-0.
I put Sam K & Jack together at the back at this point, and it
seemed to stem their flow!
Sam
K was very busy in the early stage of this half, defending everywhere to stop
them. Luke G went on a good run
and passed to Luke A, but his shot was wide.
Sam K then stopped another attack and played Luke A through again but
he was crowded out. They did
break through our defence, but Jamie made a magnificent save.
Tom went on a run and crossed it in, but like in the first game, no one
was there to finish it. With
their tide stopped, Sam K was
pushed back up front and it repaid instant dividends.
He picked up the ball on the halfway line, ran past two players and
unleashed a shot out of nowhere, which flew in off of the far right post 2-1.
Tom then had a go, but his shot went wide.
By this stage, the whole team were battling hard and the Henbury
manager was overheard shouting “Come on lads, they’re playing football
with us now!” What a great
tribute! We tackled hard, Jack
took a long shot and at the end Tom went close with a header, but we
couldn’t find the elusive goal.

It
was a strange affair, both times we went 2-0 down without really putting up a
fight and then went on to dominate both games, without getting the winner that
our play deserved. Unlucky!
