St Fry Club of the Colts! Sunday 9th October 2005 ____________________________________________________________________
We had played this team at
tournaments, but never a proper game.
For the first time this season, we had everyone available.
Game 1 - The line up was:
Joby
Jack Oscar
Luke Sam B
Dan
Rolling Subs: Spike, Tom
& Sam K
They pressed from the start
and a throw came into our area which wasn’t really dealt with but the shot was
just wide. The ball was played back at
us from a clearance and Jack missed it due to it skimming off of the wet
surface quicker than he realised. Saints
were in and Joby had to be quick off of his line and in clearing it, was
injured, but he soon recovered. Saints
then had a good run, but their shot was across the face of the goal.
It bounced out from his parry and
he made a great save to deny them. Sam K
& Dan forced a throw from Joby’s long kick and from that, Dan shot, but it
was deflected into the side netting. Sam
B took the corner, Luke tried to head it but they broke and Jack got back well
to clear the danger. They got through
again but Joby was there. He was then
alert to pounce on it again. Tom was
taken by two players but got a great pass to
Spike won the ball, spun and shot, but the ‘keeper
made a great save. Tom had a long shot
which was blocked. Oscar hit it back and
Sam K shot just across the face of the goal.
Jack got the ball to Spike who battled with two defenders and got the
ball to Tom. His cross/shot was just
missed by Sam K. At this point it was
all us but they broke quickly and left one on one with Joby and this time they
scored 0-1. From the kick, Sam K had a shot, but it was
wide. Tom then had a shot with Sam K
chasing in, but the ‘keeper got it. They
tried to attack but Luke was there with the block. Joby hit a long kick, which Sam K chased. He ran half the length of the pitch, holding
off a defender before firing it low past their ‘keeper 1-1. They had a corner which
hit Joby in the head, knocking his hat off and he needed some attention. He got up to a round of applause. The ball was played into Sam K from Tom and he turned and shot past the ‘keeper 2-1.
The same happened a minute later with Sam K receiving from Tom and increasing our lead 3-1.
The game ended with a shot from Tom.
Joby came very close to winning the MotM award for his great efforts in
goal.
Man of the Match – Chosen by Paul Godwin for excellent play –
Sam Kipling
Game 2 - The line up was:
Jamie G
Mark James
Jim
Ethan Josh
Josef
Rolling Subs: Callum, Max
& Joe
Jim attacked down the line
and crossed but no one was there and it was cleared. Ethan got it and tried to go for goal but
found three Saints defenders in his way.
Josef then put a lovely ball through for Jim but he was tackled as he
turned for goal.
A great turn and pass by Joe led to Max running at
goal, but his shot was into the side netting.
Their ‘keeper did not have the best kick and Joe got on the end of one and returned it high, with interest 2-1.
It was not all our way however and a throw came past four defenders to
give the Saints attacker and easy tap in 2-2. Josh ran through the midfield, played a nice
one-two with Ethan before taking the shot, but without enough power. Joe then hit a rasping shot which the ‘keeper
couldn’t hold at the first attempt.
Ethan tried to get his foot in, but it was just clawed away from
him. Joe took a corner which led to a
scramble in the area which led to Josh
getting his toe to it, which led into the back of the net 3-2. Saints took a long shot
but Jamie was more than equal to it. He
took a big kick out but their player got his head to it and they ended up
winning a corner. We cleared the corner
and Ethan passed to Joe who took a
long speculative shot which beat the ‘keeper 4-2. Joe then went down the left and hit a great shot to give us our
second hat-trick of the day 5-2.
Man of the Match – Chosen by Teresa Andrews for excellent play –
Callum Payne
The first half of the first game saw us looking asleep, but the second
half was a much better performance. The
second game was better but we still had some defensive lapses. Overall though a great result and it was nice
to see a hat-trick in each game
I have already had some
