The ‘Church Goers Sunday
16th October 2005 ____________________________________________________________________
Jamie was ill with a stomach
complaint, so Joby was in twice. Another
team that we had never played before, our third this season. How would we fare?
Game 1 - The line up was:
Joby
James Mark
Jim Josh
Josef
Ethan
Rolling Subs: Max, Callum
& Joe
The game started at a very
fast pace, James finding Jim with a lovely ball out wide. Josef went down the line on the left and got
in a great cross, but no one could get their foot to it. Pucklechurch had an attack but Joby was
quickly off of his line to claim it.
James then kicked the ball over his head to Ethan, Ethan got the ball
into the area but no one could get the killer touch. Mark won the ball in defence and got it to
Josh. His through ball was chased by
Josef who kept on the pressure forcing them back for a goal kick. Their ‘keeper gave a very big kick out. Josh won it, passed through to Ethan but
their ‘keeper was out to win it. They
had another attack but Jim & Joby combined well to win the ball. Josef played a nice ball through to Joe but
it was just over hit and was cleared.
Max went on a good run through midfield but the ball was just too far
ahead of Joe. A great ball was then
played to Joe, but his shot was at the ‘keeper.
Josef then ran with the ball and shot but he was too far out and the
‘keeper gathered it. Max tried to work
his way through three defenders but was out muscled. Josef passed through to Joe but his shot
rebounded off of the ‘keeper and no one was able to follow up.
They attacked again, but Joby came out and grabbed
the ball on the edge of his area. Joby
made a massive kick, Joe won the bounce.
He passed to Josef who returned the compliment. Joe then ran at goal, but his shot was
straight into the ‘keeper’s arms. Their
‘keeper kicked it so hard that it ended up going out for our goal kick. We pressurised and won a corner. This was cleared out and Callum came charging
in but his long range shot was at the ‘keeper.
Pucklechurch were not out of the game and an attack beat Joby but was
cleared by Jim. At last the breakthrough
came. We passed well between Joe &
Max, and Max stormed into the area
and buried it low past the ‘keeper 0-1. A great passing move, almost from the restart
saw Max pass to Josh and his shot which the ‘keeper had covered, was deflected
through the ‘keeper’s legs from a defender at the last minute, and from there Joe had an open goal one yard out 0-2.
Max then attacked, passed to Josh who played a lovely ball through to Ethan and his shot went in off of the
left post 0-3. Ethan, Max, Josh & Joe then all had
chances created from great passing but the ball just wouldn’t go in. Ethan had another shot just wide, then Joe
hit one at the ‘keeper, before Ethan hit the post.

Game 2 - The line up was:
Joby
Sam B Oscar
Dan
Rolling Subs: Jack, Sam K
& Tom
A big kick by Joby was chased
by Dan, but his shot was just wide. Sam
B hit in a great corner but they defended well, it came back out and Sam’s shot
was fumbled around the post by the ‘keeper.
Sam’s next corner was cleared but both Sam & Luke got back to win
the ball back. Oscar then won the ball
in defence, played a great ball up to Spike and his threaded ball through to
Luke was superb but Luke was crowded out.
Spike was then hit up into the air by a late challenge. Then Oscar had the same. He took the free kick to Jordan who tried to
play in Dan, but it was cut out. We then
had sustained pressure, with shots flying in from Jordan, Tom & Sam K, but
it didn’t go in. We weren’t to be denied
the whole game however and Sam K passed a lovely ball through to Tom who couldn’t miss from that range 0-1.
The ball was played out of defence by Jack to Sam
K, who, in the words of Anita “had trouble staying on his feet”. The way one Pucklechurch player was flying
in, I’m not surprised! He got the ball
to Luke, who passed inside to Spike who crossed a lovely ball to Oscar, who by
now had moved up front, but his shot was deflected for a corner. Tom played it back to Sam B, but his shot was
saved by the ‘keeper. From the kick
however, Sam K won the ball,
attacked through the defence, cutting left, before clinically finishing low
past the despairing dive of the ‘keeper 0-2. Another well-worked corner saw Tom play to
Sam B, and his cross to Spike, but he was crowded out. Jack then had the ball in defence, played
forward across the field to Tom. He
played a first time ball wide right to Sam B who took one touch before drilling
into the area to where Dan was waiting, and his first time shot was narrowly wide. It was however an exceptional move, from our
area to a shot via four players in less than five seconds! Sam K then had two successive shots, one
wide, the other saved. We had a free
kick, which Tom played into Sam B. He
laid it back to Tom and his half way line shot was saved. Jack then passed forward to Spike, but his
shot was wide. Dan played it into Sam K,
and he laid it off for Tom whose through ball to Spike, was cleared by three
Pucklechurch defenders. The ball was
played into the middle where Spike
was the first to react scoring well past the ‘keeper 0-3. The same defender then
had another spell of pushing and kicking with Tom, Spike, Sam K and Jack all on
the receiving end in some form or another.

Jordan Harris
Before the game, Maurice and I laid out what we wanted from the boys, and
they followed it to the letter. At the
end I couldn’t say anything except well done!
So, well done again!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
The use of the local Astro-Turf has provisionally been
confirmed. We will train on grass, starting
at 5.00pm and ending when it’s too dark (probably about 6.30pm) on both the 21st
and 28th of October. Rather
than then use the hard courts for one week, (which also happens to be Bonfire
Night!), we will have that week off, and then return to training, from 6.00pm
until 7.00pm on the Astro on Friday 11th November. The weekly cost will be £17 per week, as we
will be sharing with both the Juniors and the Under 10’s. This will continue until we can return to
grass. The cost will be met from the
level of subs set at the start of the season.
Because we only have an hour, can we all aim to be there, in trainers by
5.45pm so that we can do our warm-up before we start, maximising our time under
the lights. - Andy
