The Players, Depleted, Will Never Be Defeated!        Sunday 30th October 2005 ____________________________________________________________________

No players were resting this week, but we still had six players missing due to injury & half-term!  No Jack, Dan, Oscar, Mark, Max or Joby.  Because of that, Jamie played both games, and Jim was asked to move to the Greens.  This was the fourth team that we had never played before, how would we do this time?  Sue Pike was very keen, getting there at 8.45am!  Mind you, I think it had something to do with the clocks going back an hour the night before.  That however, was not as bad as the person in the Under 10’s who knew the clocks changed, but forgot which way.  They put their clock forward an hour, so arrived at Frys at 8.00am!

Game 1 - The line up was:

Jamie

Sam B     Tom     Spike

Luke     Sam K     Jordan

Rolling Sub: Jim

Sam K started with a great run down the wing.  It came into our half but Sam B cleared like Rugby Union down for a throw in by their goal-line!  They attacked down our right, crossed it in, and in spite of the valiant efforts of Luke, Spike & Jamie, the ball flew through a crowd and ended in the back of the net 0-1.  We attacked straight back and Tom had a shot which went wide.  They then came back at us, but this time their shot was wide.  Jamie kicked long, Luke controlled, passed nicely to Tom, but the ‘keeper saved his shot.  From the goal-kick, Sam K got the ball, had a shot, but without enough power and the ‘keeper saved.  Tom then had a corner, which flew in and across the face of the goal, only a foot out, but no one was able to reach it.  Luke then showed some real skill to get past two players, but more came in and he was tackled.  Luke then went down the right wing and passed to Sam K, but they had too many back, and the ‘keeper got to it.  Sam K then ran down the line, crossed it in, Tom got a touch to it and it was in the back of the net 1-1, or so we thought, but the ref’ drew it back as the ball had gone out just before the cross.  We then had more pressure as Jim passed forward to Tom, but his shot was across goal, and wide.  They then attacked through the middle, but Jamie came out and did enough to put them off and it went wide.

HALF-TIME:   FRYS   0    C/HEATH   1

We attacked and they cleared over the halfway line where Sam B hit it and the ‘keeper had to save!  We then forced a scramble in the goal area with Sam K getting the final touch, but wide.  Sam B played the ball through the middle to Tom, but his shot was into the ‘keeper’s hands.  They were still dangerous however, and their attacker ran past three of our players before Sam B made the final tackle.  Tom went on a run but lost the ball.  Jordan managed to get it back and took a shot, but it was at the ‘keeper.  Then they were through again, but Jamie was off of his line quickly to clear.  Sam B then played a great 30 yard ball through to Sam K who took the shot, but again it was saved.  Tom had a corner, which various players tried to hit in.  They broke out however but were slowed by a great tackle from Jordan, and then Jamie made an excellent save.  Spike & Sam K then attacked but again the ‘keeper saved.  Tom then won the ball, passed to Spike who hit a great shot, but again it was saved.  Totally against the run of play, they attacked down our left, crossed in and it was in the back of the net 0-2.

We kicked off, Sam K ran wide and was hit in to the air as we all heard an audible crack, luckily it was boot on shinpad, and after some treatment, he carried on.  Luke & Sam B defended well, got the ball to Spike down the wing, but he was crowded out.  Tom attacked strongly and shot.  The ‘keeper could only parry the ball and it fell invitingly to Sam K who duly buried it in the back of the net 1-2.  Tom then attacked down the left, and with Sam K waiting in the middle, elected to shoot.  The ‘keeper got his hands to it, but it was hit with too much venom 2-2.  Tom ran left, crossed to Jim, but his shot was saved again by the ‘keeper.  Next thing and they were through, looking to snatch a last gasp equaliser, but Jamie was out quickly and made the save with his feet.  Sam K then took the ball past a player, but shot wide.  Tom then had some lovely attacking play and crossed in towards Sam K, but the ‘keeper just got there ahead of him.  Luke tackled hard in the middle and got it to Sam K but his shot was cleared.  They came on the attack and Sam B stood firm.

Game 2 - The line up was:

Jamie

James     Callum

Ethan     Josh     Josef

Joe

They started strong in our half, but Ethan won it, played it to Josef who ran forward well.  He got it to Joe who crossed for Josh, but he couldn’t quite get to it.  They then attacked and Jamie was out to clear it.  It didn’t go far, and with Jamie struggling to get back the shot in was cleared off of the line for a corner by Josh.  The corner came in, there was a scramble and from the edge of the area it was hit through the crowd.  Jamie saw it late and dived, but it just squeezed under his body 0-1.  Joe ran left and hit in a great cross, but their ‘keeper was out to make the save.  Joe went on a great run, but his shot went just wide.  We then put some concerted pressure on their goal with Ethan, Joe and Josh all seeing shots saved by their ‘keeper.  They broke, James tried to win the ball and was pushed over for a free-kick.  He dusted himself off and took it, passing a lovely ball to Josh, and Josh tried to thread it through for Joe, but it was just cut out.  Joe then returned the compliment to Josh but again their ‘keeper made an excellent save.  We then had a scramble in the area and Josh, fed up of watching their ‘keeper make saves, decided to try a new tactic.  He hooked his foot under the ball, from a fairly acute angle and it flew high over the ‘keeper into the top left corner 1-1.  The defence then had a slight lapse, but Jamie dived on it.  Ethan then played it through for Joe, but he was tackled as he tried to shoot.

HALF-TIME: FRYS   1    C/HEATH   1

James got the ball to Josef, and he in turn fed Joe, but Joe was crowded out.  Ethan was then surrounded by three defenders but managed to get a shot in.  They attacked twice in succession, both times Callum won the ball and cleared the danger down-field.  Josh won the ball in defence, found Josef and he played it for Ethan.  Joe had pulled wide, taking the defender with him, so Ethan had a clear run at goal and he hit it low and hard 2-1.  Joe then hit a corner, which was partially cleared to Josef.  He passed it back down the line to Joe who again crossed and Ethan was there with his second within the space of a few minutes 3-1.  They attacked down our right and crossed in high, to where Jamie saved.  Callum then slid in to get the ball and played it forward to Josef.  He then ran across field before finding Joe and his resulting shot found the back of the net 4-1.  Joe crossed to Ethan, but the ‘keeper saved his shot.  James defended strongly and played two good forward balls, one to Ethan and the other to Joe.

OVERALL RESULT : FRYS   6    C/HEATH   3

Afterthoughts………………………………………………………………

In the end, I thought that the result was a fair one.  I think that we dominated and had a lot of chances, but they still created dangerous moments.  Well done to our boys for never giving up, even though we had fallen behind twice.

It keeps changing!  Keep an eye out for more updates.

Dec 11 – Broadwalk – Tom, Sam K, Mark & Jack

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

The use of the local Astro-Turf has provisionally been confirmed but the times are not.  We may be 6.00pm – 7.00pm, or we may be 7.00pm – 8.00pm.  We will have bonfire night week off, and then return to training on the Astro on Friday 11th November.  The weekly cost will be either £25 or £17 per week, depending on how many teams share with us. This will continue until we can return to grass.  The cost will be met from the level of subs set at the start of the season.  Because we only have an hour, can we all aim to be there, in trainers, a quarter of an hour earlier, so that we can do our warm-up before we start, maximising our time under the lights.
