The Fog! Sunday
20th November 2005 ____________________________________________________________________
We had our photo in the Club
prior to the game and with Brislington not having a change of kit, elected to
wear our new Royal Blue away tops for the game.
It was icy cold and foggy but we could see from end to end. Andy was there but needed to photograph for a
college project so Maurice took charge of the team. At the start of the game, Dan was the only
player missing, but Sam K became ill and couldn’t finish the first game. Callum had been ill the night before but
wanted to try to play in the second game, however it got worse and he too had
to go home.
Game 1 - The line up was:
Joby
Sam B Jack
Oscar
Sam K Spike
Rolling Subs: Tom & Luke
Jack played a lovely ball
through the middle, which was cleared by Bris, but hit back with interest by
Sam B. Sam was then defending well,
played a great ball down the line for
Tom played Luke in, but he
was tackled as he tried to shoot. Bris
attacked again, and as Joby came out, he slipped and the ball rolled into our
net 1-4. Joby kicked long but it was hit back. They ran into our area and Luke tried to make
the tackle, but only managed to get one of their player’s legs and they were
awarded a penalty. It was blasted low to
Joby’s right as he dived left 1-5. We attacked again and Spike was taken
down. Tom took a long shot but it went
just wide. The ball was played down our
right and Sam K chased. He got to it at the same time as their
‘keeper and won it. He nimbly side
stepped the ‘keeper and from an acute angle, passed the ball with his left foot
into the goal 2-5.
Bris tried to pass their way through but Jack was
on hand to stop them. Tom, Luke &
Spike tried to pass around a bit, but Bris kept getting in the way and we were
unable to progress. Joby kicked but they
got it. As they attacked, Luke flew in
and cleared the danger. From the throw
they tried to attack, but both Tom & Luke defended well. They weren’t denied long as their forward who
had done all of the damage scored another 2-6. Tom went on a run past two or three of their
players but his final cross was blocked.
Tom threw to Spike but as he bore in on goal, their
defender just got his foot to the ball.
They attacked again, but Oscar made a telling challenge to stop
them. Luke then played Sam B through,
but his shot went just wide. Tom had a
good shot saved and then Joby did the same as they threatened. They then had two successive corners, the
first of which Joby palmed away, the second cleared by Jack. Luke then went on a run, but he was stopped
at the halfway line. By this time, the
other side of the pitch was almost shrouded in fog, so much that our Match
Commentator had problems identifying players!
They attacked, Joby cleared, but they came in numbers and one of their
players followed up to score 2-7.
Man of the Match – Chosen by Helen Carreyett for consistent play &
a good goal – Jordan Harris
Game 2 - The line up was:
Jamie
James Mark
Jim
Josh Josef
Joe
Rolling Subs: Max & Ethan
They announced their
intentions very early. There was a melee
in our area and they got their foot to it, and it was in the back of the net 0-1.
Josh worked hard to win the ball in midfield and play it to Joe, but he
was out-numbered and wasn’t able to get it.
Joe did get the ball and ran at goal, but their ‘keeper was quickly out
and got it. James & Josef then
combined together to stop a Bris attack.
Two consecutive corners were stopped, first by Jim with a good header,
and then by Jamie who grasped it. Ethan
played a great ball down the line to Josh and he hit in a dangerous cross,
which Max just missed getting his foot to.
They countered quickly but
James was there. James then battled a
little too hard and conceded a free kick for shirt pulling! Max tried to break out of defence, but he was
robbed and Jim blocked the resulting shot.
Max then ran back to defend and got the ball forward to Josh. He evaded their tackles and eventually won a
throw in their half. Good skill from
both players. Jim again headed clear a
dangerous cross, he was making a habit of this!
With our players struggling to get back, they attacked fast, but Jamie
was out to clear it.
Max showed great skill to keep the ball in play,
then passed a great ball down the line for Ethan to chase and his shot skimmed
across the face of the goal. James
defended well then played a lovely ball forward, but our attack broke
down. A nice pass to Max from Jamie was
hit to Joe. He battled well and got it
to Josef who found Joe again, but this time in space, but his shot went just
across the face of the goal. Bris then
struck at us, but another excellent save by Jamie stopped them. Mark defended well to clear the danger, and
then as it came back in, Jamie made a great save. Max played a good ball down the line to Joe,
who battled well and won us a throw. The
throw came to Ethan a good 20 yards out and he turned and hammered the ball,
with very little back lift, but the ‘keeper got behind it.
The ‘keeper drop-kicked it and it came to Max. He controlled it, ran forward about 10 yards
and hit it, unfortunately straight at the ‘keeper. They had a corner which Max won. He got it out to Joe halfway and he played a
first time ball to Ethan, but somehow their defender just go back to make the
tackle. Josh went on a superb run and
just missed with his cross. It came out
halfway and Mark ran through, beat the ‘keeper with his shot, but a defender
got there on the line to clear it. Max
ran forward, Joe went wide to take their defender and Max shot, but their
‘keeper got to it. They had a corner
which Mark managed to clear to the edge of the area, but one of their players
hit it low, through a crowd of about seven players and into the back of the net
0-2.
Man of the Match – Chosen by Mark Yeoman for an outstanding game –
Jamie Charles
This was a strange game. We lost
7-2 the first game, and yet we could easily have won the game. The second game was a bit different. They scored at the start and at the end, and
the middle was equal. I don’t think we
deserved to have won the second, but would have been happy with a draw.
It keeps changing!
Keep an eye out for more updates.
