Muddyfield Sunday
15th January 2006 ____________________________________________________________________
Jack was away and Josh was
ill, so Jim transferred to the Green team for the day. Most of the Yellow team were at the pitch
warming up before 10.00am. The
opposition however arrived well after ten, and we were worried that the game
was even on! Impressively, on the big
pitch next to us, Henbury had the same concerns until their opposition finally
turned up, although they were playing
Game 1 - The line up was:
Joby
James Sam B
Luke Ethan
Max
Josef
Rolling Subs: Sam K &
Mark
The game started at a very
fast pace. Ethan ran, passed to Luke and
he got it through to Josef, but his shot ran wide. James & Max then battled hard on the left
side to stop their attack getting through.
We attacked, they cleared to halfway and Sam B took a long shot. Max played the ball up field to Ethan, but
his shot was blocked and they attacked back.
Max then took on three of their players but it was just too many and he
was unable to get through. Mangotsfield
then broke through and Joby was out to block.
Joby then kicked long, but our midfield had gone too far and left the
defence exposed 1-0. Luke attacked down the wing, got past one,
but two more came in to clear. There was
then a melee in the area and Sam B was strong to clear it.
They then attacked again with
some quick inter-passing amongst their forwards that had our players going in
circles and they gave Joby no real chance although he did get a leg to it 2-0.
Sam K ran up the wing, past three defenders but his cross was cleared
for a corner. The first was put back
out, and the second was partly cleared to where Mark was waiting, but his shot
was deflected wide. Sam B took a great
high corner which was met by Sam K, but unfortunately it was over. They came again, but Sam B was in the right
place to clear. Mark then headed a
corner clear, followed by another. Sam K
battled for the ball, but his final shot was agonisingly wide. The struck straight back, but Joby made an
important stop.
Joby threw to Mark and he
passed to James. James played it to Max
who went on a great run. The ball came
into the middle where Sam K shot, the ‘keeper lost it and it appeared that a
defender fell and used his hands to stop it going in before it was
cleared. The Ref’ didn’t see it
though. Joby kicked wide to Ethan but he was closed down. We regained possession and put together a
great passing move and got it back to him, and it culminated in a great goal 2-1.
Sam K threw to Max and he laid it back.
Sam then cut in from wide and unleashed a thundering shot, which
cannoned off the outside of the post.
They tried to get back into the game with a powerfully struck 30 yard
shot. It was flying low and fast, but
Joby had it covered. Unfortunately, we
let an attacker come in and when the ball was about a foot from Joby’s arms,
the attacker got his toe to it and deflected it high past Joby 3-1.
We pushed to get back in the
game and they caught us on the break, but Joby flew out of his area and cleared
the danger. Great passing put Ethan
through, but his shot was just too far out and the ‘keeper was able to save
it. We gain a corner and pushed
hard. The corner came in and on the
front post was a Mangotsfield player. He
chased his header clear and suddenly Mark and Luke were facing four
attackers. Despite their best efforts,
Mangotsfield got through and gave Joby no chance 4-1. We never gave up though
and from the kick Luke attacked down the wing, gaining us a corner. Max and Ethan batrtled well when the ball
came in, but they had too many back and cleared it. It came back to Sam B, but his shot was
across the face of the goal. Max won the
ball, played it wide to Ethan and he crossed in to where Sam K was waiting and there was only one outcome 4-2.
Man of the Match –
Chosen by Jim’s Aunty for brilliant play and a good
goal –
Ethan Chilcott
Game 2 - The line up was:
Jamie
Oscar Callum
Spike Jim
Dan
Rolling Sub: Tom & Joe
From the kick both Jim and Dan attacked through but
were stopped before they got to the goal.
They then got though again, but the ‘keeper fell on the ball. We won a corner which Jim swung in and Dan
got his foot to, but the ‘keeper made the save.
We gained a corner from the kick, which Joe
took. He delivered a great ball in which
Tom headed past the ‘keeper 0-1.
Jim went down the wing and crossed the ball, but it was cleared,
although only as far as Joe. He returned
it with interest, but it went wide. The
game was stopped for an injury and Joe took the drop ball. It came to Tom and he set Joe going down the
wing only to find four defenders crowding him out. Callum played a great ball down the wing to

The ‘Resting’ schedule keeps
updating. There are two games to go and
a few players still to rest. Due to a
recent improvement in results, I have decided to take Ashton out of the
list. If these games are cancelled then
the list stays the same but will be on the rearranged dates:
29/01/06 – FDS – Callum, Josh, Joe
& Sam B
26/02/06 – Saltford – Jamie, Spike,
Luke & Jack
