Who Needs The Manager? Sunday 26th February 2006 ____________________________________________________________________
Andy had his Best Man down
for the weekend, which meant a non-appearance at football, so the usual
suspects took over! The last four
restee’s took their turn, however Jamie was ill and so Sam B came into
goal. As this was the second time Sam
had done this on a game he was due to rest, Andy decided that two goal-keeping
appearances would count the same as a game and a rest.
Game 1 - The line up was:
Joby
Mark James
Ethan Josef
Max
Sam K
Rolling Sub: Jim
Straight from the kick off,
Max went on a run and shot, but his attempt was wide. Some good battling in the middle by Josef got
the ball wide to Max, and he in turn found Sam, but he was out-numbered. Sam
was then through and struck his shot well, but the ‘keeper made the save.
Saltford had a counter attack, and no one seemed to want to stop them and they
gave Joby no chance 1-0. They tried it again straight away but this
time Joby was able to make the save.
James found Sam with a great forward pass, and he got it to Ethan, but
the ref’ pulled it back for handball somewhere!
Mark was then under pressure at the back, but he coped with it
well. Josef then found Sam and he found
Ethan, but again he was out-numbered.
Mark then headed clear to Jim, but his pass forward was cut out. Ethan went on a great run, but his shot was
well saved. We took the resultant corner
but Ethan’s touch went just wide.
Max found Sam and he in turn
found Ethan. His shot was blocked, but Max followed up to put it in the net 1-1.
Jim at the back, cleared the ball the length of the field to Ethan who controlled it, shot, and
scored 1-2. Some more good passing from the back, via a
few of our players ended at Ethan's
feet, and again he made no mistake 1-3. Another good run by Ethan was pushed
wide. Jim found Sam, but the ‘keeper was
out quick to save at his feet. Sam then
won it at the edge of the area, but the shot went over the bar. Sam
then won the ball in the middle, ran through their half and shot. Although the ‘keeper got his hands to it, he
was unable to keep it out of the net 1-4. Ethan and Sam combined well again. But the
end shot went across the face of the goal.

Game 2 - The line up was:
Sam B
Callum Oscar
Dan Josh
Tom
Rolling Sub: Joe
We had a free kick right at the start which Tom
elected to shoot from distance. They won
the ball and counter-attacked, but Oscar made the important block. They attacked again, and Sam made a good
clearance. Callum then cleared an
attack, and when they came back, Sam stood firm. Tom had a great run and shot, which bounced
off of the post, and one of their players cleared. Tom and Josh then had a one-two and Tom’s
shot again came back off of the same post.
Joe then followed up, but his shot went high and wide. We had some dangerous possession, which
resulted in Dan shooting, but the same post was hit for the third time in the
game. Tom decided that the first post
must be getting tired by now and shot against the other one! They broke from that, but Callum was
there. Josh took a whack in the face
which resulted in a drop ball. Josh won
it, passed wide to Tom, but his shot was wide.
They had one final attack, but Oscar put in a great tackle to stop them.
Oscar won the ball again and found Tom. Tom then got the ball to Jordan who found Dan
on the wing, but unfortunately he was crowded out. Joe then put in a lovely cross, but the touch
in the area went wide. Almost every
player was in the Saltford area, but it just wouldn’t go into the net. Joe played a great cross-field ball to Tom,
but they defended well. At this point
the commentary said “It’s bl***y freezing, I hope you’re happy at home” I don’t know who she could have been
referring to, sat in front of the fire relaxing…… Great defending by Oscar brought the Match
Reporter back to the game however, and soon after, it ended.
