The Out
Of Towners! Wednesday 19th
April 2006 _____________________________________________________________________________________
They had a Cup Final to get
ready for, but had not played for a few weeks so wanted a friendly. Who was I to say no? The shortness of the timescale, and the fact
that it was a Wednesday night, meant that a few were unavailable – James,
Callum & Oscar. Nick worked late so
they provided the ref’, and Paul Harris kindly took the mic. As it was a Wednesday, Joel was able to
play. It rained.
Game 1 - The line up was:
Joby
Jack Joel
Spike Josh
Dan
Rolling Subs: Tom & Ethan
Almost from the kick and
Keynsham attacked with a ball down the right, which was cut back and aimed at
the top right corner, but it went wide.
The ball was bobbling about in the middle and a snapshot from Keynsham
was excellently saved by Joby. A big
kick from Joby was misjudged by their defenders and Josh muscled his way
through two bigger defenders and got the shot away, but it took a deflection
and went out for a corner. They broke
away from the corner and attacked towards goal, but Joel slid in with a strong
tackle and managed to put it out for a corner.
The corner was short and Tom took a touch, then hit right down the line
where Ethan was chasing, but as he aimed for goal, their defender got back and
conceded a corner. They then attacked
back and went down their left to cross in.
It came to Joel on his right foot, but he tried to control and clear
with his left, and in that time an attacker got in and poked it into the net 0-1.
We won a free kick as we
attacked which Tom took. It got all the
way to Ethan who had a shot, but their ‘keeper made the save. Keynsham attacked down the right, crossed it
in and shot, just past the left post. We
attacked and won a corner. Ethan hit it
across to Tom who tried the Teddy Sheringham special of waiting on the edge and
hitting it first time. It was going
towards the far corner but Dan was in the way and tried to control and shoot,
but he was blocked. The break was then
on, but Joel was there with two outstanding tackles to stop them.
Keynsham had a long range
shot, but Joby watched it go wide, he had it covered. Another attack by Keynsham was stopped first
by Jack, and then with a great save by Joby.
They attacked on the right and the ball went out. The ref’ didn’t see it so play continued and
Joby made a fantastic save onto one post and then along the goal-line to the
other and Jack made a great lunge to block on the line and clear it, getting
injured in the process. Keynsham
attacked again with Tom,

Game 2 - The line up was:
Jamie
Mark Sam B
Luke Jim
Josef
Joe
Rolling Subs: Sam K & Max
They attacked almost from the start down the left
and crossed in high. Jamie, Sam &
Luke all went for it, none got the decisive touch, but they did fall into each
other and it came to a Keynsham attacker who managed to loop it up over the
three and into an open net 0-1. Keynsham then attacked down the right, Jamie
came out and they shot past him, hitting first the right then the left post,
before Sam B got in the clear it. We got
the ball down the left to Joe. He turned
his man and swung in a lovely low cross to Luke who had an open goal, but
rather than get his leg in the way early, he waited until the ball got to him
before going for it, and consequently missed the ball. Keynsham attacked and Luke made a strong
challenge. It broke free and they were
still attacking and Sam B slid in with a strong challenge to concede a
corner. Luke won the ball and attacked
right. He used great skill to evade two
players, but just ran out of touchline.
Luke then made three strong challenges to get past the defenders, but
again just ran out of space. Sam K then
attacked down the right and crossed in a great low pass, but Max did the same
as Luke, waiting rather then sticking a leg out, and the ball rolled past
him.
Jim took a corner which Sam K returned. He chipped the ball back in and Sam K got a
glancing head to the ball, which evaded the ‘keeper but went just the wrong
side of the left post. Keynsham broke
and suddenly Mark was chasing their number 11, who was VERY fast, Jamie came
out to narrow the angle and he clipped the ball as it went past, but it fell
kindly for them into the net 0-2. We had a throw which Sam K then hit into Max,
but he just couldn’t get his foot on the end of it. They then created a few chances in our area,
the last of which was by their 11, but Jamie made another fantastic save to
deny them. We attacked right and they
came across to challenge and clear out, but Teresa’s control let her down… Their 11 beat our last defender and was in on
goal. The ref’ blew for half-time but
neither the attacker nor Jamie heard and the shot was again brilliantly saved
by Jamie.
For the second half the formation changed. Max pushed furthest forward of a midfield
diamond, with Joe on the left and Sam K on the right feeding off of him. Worth a try I thought! Max won the ball in the middle and got it
wide to Joe. He attacked and hit a
powerful shot, which the ‘keeper saved but couldn’t hold onto, however we
weren’t quick enough with the follow-up and he was able to grab it as Max
steamed in. From a Keynsham corner, Sam
B cleared but only as far as a defender who knocked it back in. The shot was high to Jamie’s left, but he
stuck out a strong hand and pushed it for another corner. Joe won the ball and attacked down the left,
beating two players, but his shot lacked power and they were able to clear
it. Joe took a corner on the left. Sam K showed great control to turn and shoot,
but the ‘keeper made a great save. It
bobbled around just a yard from goal and Josef got his toe to it, however the
‘keeper recovered enough to save on the line.
Keynsham’s number 11 had a run and Sam K steamed back to slide in. The ref’ judged unfairly however (which was
right) and he got up to hit a powerful free kick, only to find Jamie again in
great form, saving for another corner.
Josef emerged from defence with the ball, showing skill and
determination to win the ball, before getting it to Sam K. He chipped the ball for Max to chase, but it
was just too far ahead of Max and the ‘keeper got it.
Their 11 was again down the right, and again Sam K
was there with a fantastic challenge to clear, although this time Sam hurt
himself. He was able to carry on
though. Most of the team were involved in
the next attack. Joe ended up with it,
going down the left and crossed in to Sam K who had two good shots
blocked. It was going out but Josef
showed great enthusiasm to keep it in however and crossed back in to where Sam K was waiting in the middle to bury
the ball in the back of the net 1-2. Another great attack down the left by Joe,
muscling off their 11, culminated in a cross to Max, who controlled it well and
hit a powerful shot, unfortunately just wide of the post. Joe then crossed in again for Sam K to strike
it powerfully, but just past the left post.
We broke out with great skill by Max, getting the ball to Joe, but he
was tackled as he tried to shoot. Joe
beat a defender down the left and saw Jim in space, his cross finding him. Jim whacked it first time, but the ‘keeper
again made a fine save. Joe struck
another powerful shot which the ‘keeper could only parry, but no Frys players
were near and they cleared it. Their 11
was away past Sam B, but Jim backed him up and slid in with a great tackle. They then had an attack down the middle and
the shot was heading into the top right, but Jamie was again equal to it and
made an excellent stop.

the Match – Chosen by Tom Baker for a good game & many great saves –
