The Serpent & The Rainbow               Sunday 17th April 2005 ____________________________________________________________________

Game 1 - The line up was:

Joby

Mark     Callum

Josef     Ethan     Josh

Joe C

Rolling Subs: Jim & Jack

The ball flew into the box which Joby fisted down and Mark cleared.  It then came back in and Josef cleared well.  Josh passed to Joe, he hit it cross-field to Josef and out to Josh, some good play.  We had a throw, which was taken by Callum to Josef, and then down the line to Ethan.  He turned and shot in, but the ‘keeper saved low at his feet.  A dangerous ball flew into our area, Mark brought it down and Callum casually laid it back to Joby.  Another ball came in, and Callum cleared twice.  It was then crossed in and Josh cleared for a corner.  The corner came in and both Callum and Mark tried to clear.  It broke loose into the melee and Joby dived on it well.  Callum then went down the line, cut inside and back to Josh who crossed it in to Joe but he was tackled for corner to us.

They broke from the corner, both Callum and Mark tried to stop but somehow he was able to get the shot away and beat Joby low 1-0.  A hard ball then flew in, Joby got his hand to it, Mark blocked, then Ethan, then Joby again before Ethan cleared for a corner.  They then had three open goals but we threw everything in the way.  A high ball flew into our area and Joby got his hand to it, but it went the wrong way and Mark cleared off of the line.  A high cross in, Joby caught it with one hand and then pulled it into his body – well held!  Joe ran down the line, we thought he had taken too long but he got the cross in and Jim put it just the wrong side of the post.  Jack and Josef combined well, but then their player ran into the box and Joby out with his feet to make the block.

HALF-TIME: KEYNSHAM   1     FRYS   0

Josef picked up the ball halfway, ran towards goal and at the last minute laid the ball inside to Jim running in, and he dinked the ball through to Joe unmarked, who buried it into the bottom right hand corner 1-1.  Great attacking play by a combination of Jim, Josh & Ethan led to a goal kick to them, but the actual build up attack was excellent to watch.  Jack picked up the ball on the edge of our area and ran to the edge of theirs unchallenged before crossing in and Ethan volleyed goal-wards only to see it deflected for a corner.  Back at our end and Jim won the ball in our area, ran the length of the field before threading a great pass to Josh.  Josh tried to go high over the ‘keeper with his shot but it was just too high.  They attacked down the line and shot hard, but Joby made a great save.  Jim won the ball, passed down the line to Josh who turned inside to Ethan and just saw it cut out by their ‘keeper.  A long ball from Joby to Josh, he crossed it to Ethan who passed to Jim and his shot was saved by the ‘keeper for a corner.  A Keynsham shot flew in, which Joby parried down and then both Jack & Joby reacted very quickly to deflect a shot from only a yard out, over the bar.  Jim then passed wide to Mark, down the line to Josh, inside to Joe who went slightly wide and the ‘keeper was able to push it away for a corner.  A big kick from Joby came to Joe on the halfway line, he sidestepped a player and from twenty yards hit a thunderbolt which their ‘keeper managed to get his fingertips to and push over the bar.  Joe then had a shot, parried to Josh, and blocked for a corner, but the ref’ blew full-time.

Game 2 - The line up was:

Jamie G

Oscar     Sam B

Dan     Luke G     Spike

Sam K

Rolling Subs:  Tom & Luke A

Luke G threw to Sam K, and he unleashed a spectacular shot just wide.  Great tackling by Oscar made sure they were kept out.  At this point however, it was noted that We were going forward leaving Sam B & Oscar on their own!  Sam B tackled but fell, and whilst Oscar watched they went for the ball but Jamie got it.  We attacked but lost it and it was four against Sam B & Oscar.  Oscar stood back and they shot, Jamie waved a leg at it but missed 1-0.  Keynsham attacked twice through us but both times Jamie made good saves with his feet.

Tom won the ball and bulldozed through four players before getting the ball to Sam K whose shot was deflected up high.  As it came down, Dan got to it knocking it backwards towards Spike.  He came inside a player and Luke A hit it hard but was deflected wide for a corner.  From a twenty yard shot, Jamie made a great save but the ball dropped loose in the area.  None of our players moved, but luckily Jamie reacted fast and was able to dive on it.  We attacked but as with before, lost the ball and then left 3v1 against Oscar.  They went past him and with Jamie opting to stay on his line beat him from close range 2-0.

HALF-TIME: KEYNSHAM   2     FRYS   0

Tom won it by our line, ran down the pitch past four players and his shot was saved by the ‘keeper onto the post – so unlucky!  Tom got it again, ran forwards and did a 1-2 with Spike before seeing his shot saved.  Tom again went down the line, passed inside to Sam K, who went past a player but the ‘keeper was there to stop Sam’s shot.  The ball came to Sam B but he was unable to control it and it came to a Keynsham player.  His shot hit the post, came back in and then went in off of Jamie 3-0.  Tom went down the line past three players, passed to Sam K inside but his shot was narrowly wide.  A shot came in from Keynsham, which Tom headed over, but the ref’ blew for full time before they could take it.

Afterthoughts………………………………………………………………

I made a mistake on this game, putting an extra defender in the first game when we didn’t need it.  Had any of the three defenders gone in the second game then Oscar & Sam wouldn’t have been left so exposed at times, and with a bit of luck in front of goal, we could have had 8 or 9 goals overall.
