Destruction Derby !                Sunday 1st May 2005 ____________________________________________________________________

No, Dan , Jordan , Luke G, Sam K, Oscar, Jim or Joby.  The Yellow’s did their skill award whilst the Green’s played first, and then vice-versa.  Jordan turned up to watch the game as well, which was nice.

Game 1 - The line up was:

Jamie G

Sam B     Jack

Luke A     Tom     Max

Spike

Sam got the ball and passed to Max, but he was tackled.  Tom then went on a run and shot across the face of the goal.  Spike then tackled well to get the ball and regain possession.  After another shot, Luke and spike combined well to win the ball back and got it to Max and he shot.  Tom then played a lovely ball downfield for Max to chase and he only just missed with his shot.  Luke then went on a run until he was tackled.  Tom then played a lovely one-two with Jack before going on a run but nothing came of it.  At this point, we had a lot of possession, but were doing nothing with it!  Jack and spike needed to be alert in defence however to stop an attack.  We started to play some neat passing football at this point with at one point, Max passed to Luke, and he found Spike.  Spike played inside to Max and he played a nice one-two with Tom.  Nothing came of it, but it was a nice passage of play.  Sam then did the same with Jack, Tom & Spike, and you could see our belief growing.  Max then had two consecutive shots, but both were saved.  Luke then passed it to Spike and he got it to Tom.  Tom shot, it ricocheted wide to where the grateful Jack was waiting 1-0.  The Juniors tried to get back at us but Spike was there with a great sliding tackle.  Tom then took a cross/shot which Max narrowly missed getting to, before some good passing between Spike, Sam & Tom made it 2-0, and then Tom won the ball from their restart and just ran straight through them, 3-0.

HALF-TIME: COLTS 3 JUNIORS 0

Luke went on a great run but couldn’t finish it, then Tom passed to Sam, but his shot was saved.  Spike then passed to Sam, and this time he made no mistake 4-0.  We were passing well at this point, and although the Juniors won a corner, Spike cleared it well.  Sam then won the ball wide right on halfway point, beat a player, ran down wing, cut in to the corner of the area and leathered in off of the far post 5-0.  The ball flew in and Jamie was alert to it after having very little to do.  At the end, Sam ran in and shot hard 6-0.

Game 2 - The line up was:

Ethan (James)

Callum     James (Ethan)

Josef     Josh     Joe C

Mark

Josh & Joe combined well but were unable to shoot.  Joe got the ball on the halfway line, ran forwards, and from 20 yards whacked it high in over the ‘keeper’s head 1-0.  Joe then went on a run, passed inside to Mark and he was unmarked 2-0.  Joe took a corner to Josh 3-0.  Josef ran up field, passed the ball inside to Josh, and he shot but the ‘keeper just managed to save it.  We then passed the ball around well, Josef to Joe to Callum to Josh.  Josef then passed to Joe, and he found Mark 4-0.  Josh then won the ball in our half, ran the length of the field and shot well 5-0.  Mark and James swapped places at this point.  Joe ran up field through their defence 6-0.  Josh tackled well in their area and then duly converted it 7-0.  Ethan didn’t have it all his own way and he was alert to make a good save.  Callum then played a great one-two with Josef, but after that the Juniors won possession, and their shot was just over.  Joe played the ball to Josh and he passed back, with Joe unlucky with his shot.  Mark received the ball on the corner of the box, and ran at the ‘keeper.  The ‘keeper came out and Mark touched it to his side for James to roll into an empty net 8-0.

HALF-TIME: COLTS 8 JUNIORS 0

For the second half, James went in goal, and Ethan came on in midfield.  First there was a good run by Josef but he was unlucky with his shot.  Joe ran down the wing and crossed in where three players got in each others way and they all ended up missing it!  Joe passed to Josef, and he went on a run, before finding Joe again.  Joe found Josh and on to Ethan, but he rushed his shot and missed.  Callum passed it to josh, and he went wide to Joe, who crossed into Josef 9-0.  Josh then played it wide to Ethan, who cut inside 10-0.  The ball was then played into the middle, where by this point, Josef had the bit between his teeth and soon made it 11-0.  Josh then made space for himself with some clever footwork, but his shot hit the post.  Joe got the ball on halfway, ran down the wing, cut in and made it 12-0.  Josef passed it to Joe and he couldn’t miss 13-0.  Josh won the ball from the kick, ran at goal, but it was just saved on the line by the ‘keeper.  By this point, Callum had pushed forward, scooping the ball up but it hit the post.  There was then a melee in the area, it came wide to Joe who chipped in and Callum reacted well to head it in (how much he knew of it we’ll never know!) 14-0.  The ball was soon back in their box and Callum reacted first 15-0.  A good cross from Joe, it came to Ethan who brought it down 16-0.

Afterthoughts………………………………………………………………

This was very much a one of a kind game.  After 10 slow minutes of game One, it all clicked and everything we did went right, including a lot of luck.  I don’t believe that we could do that again, and nor, to be honest would I want to!  That said, after some very recent hefty defeats, it was nice to see a smile on our player’s faces, I’m just saddened that it had to be the Juniors on the other end.
