Wey Too Warm!
Monday 4th – Friday 8th
April 2005 _____________________________________________________________
Our second team tour, and we elected to go back to Warmwell, so the
teams that we played last year, were the teams we played this year. A total of 44 Lodges were booked with players
from both the Under 8 and Under 9 ages coming along, as well as a few
friends. As with last year’s tour, the
games were organised for the Tuesday and the Thursday with the teams going down
on the Monday and coming home on the Friday.
Unfortunately, the person who
had arranged our tour games so well last year, got it horribly wrong this
year. As a consequence, we only faced
one team. The decision taken meant that
we would play 30 minutes each way, with one of our teams playing the first
half, and the other playing the second.
Game 1 - The squad was: Jamie
G, Jack Y, Sam B, James B, Jordan, Dan, Sam K, Aaron S, Matt L & Josh
They attacked straight away
and somehow managed to get the ball in the net 1-0. Matt tackled back well, ran forward with the ball and chipped
the ball through to Aaron, who made
no mistake against the advancing ‘keeper 1-1. James won the ball from the kick and passed
it to Josh. Josh then fed Aaron down the line and he cut inside and
hit an absolute screamer to put us in the lead 1-2.
Man of the Match – Chosen by Andy for excellent play –
Aaron Sutton
Game 2 - The squad was: Jamie
G, Mark, Oscar, Josef, Luke G, Spike, Joe C, Charlie, Tom & Luke A
Chickerell attacked as with
the first game, but Jamie made a good save.
The next shot however, from 20 yards wasn’t dealt with so well and it
flew through his hands 1-0. We were leaving Jamie cruelly exposed
however and the next shot went in under his foot, although you will notice that
our defence haven’t been mentioned yet and already it was 2-0. Joe took matters into his own hands and went on a run, which he
followed with a thunderous shot, followed by the trademark cartwheel
celebration 2-1. Next, our defence (they finally get a
mention) made a mistake and left Jamie no chance 3-1. Our defence had just gone on walkabout and a shot flew into
the far corner of the goal 4-1. We had committed forward and Chickerell used
that to their advantage 5-1. Next, Jamie was caught out of position as
Chickerell attacked down the right and crossed the ball in 6-1. Jamie took his eye off
of the ball on the next attack, with predictable results 7-1.
Man of the Match – Chosen by Andy for excellent play –
Tom Johnson
With Tuesday’s organisation
going the way of the pear, we feared the worst.
Unfortunately, we were right. He
had one team coming later but could have got two if the local contact had told
him! It was decided to split into three
teams. Greens v Yellows followed by the
third team playing against
Greens: Sam
B, James B, Oscar, Jack B, Luke G, Haydn S, Matt L & Spike
Yellows:
Josef, James M, Corey M, Aaron, Luke A, Jordan, Dan & Charlie G
It was a bit of a melee
match, but everyone got involved in the game.
The second half became more a war of attrition, but
Sam B denied Luke A very well. He was
then out to clear as Aaron was through.
Man of the Match – Chosen by Steve B for excellent play –
Luke Andrews
Game 2 - The team was: Jamie
G, Mark, Jack Y, Josh, Tom, Sam B, Joe C & Sam K
After 10 minutes, Jamie made
his first save as they broke quickly, with our team committed forward. It went out for a corner, and we just didn’t
seem to mark players, and as the ball came in, a
In the second half, we went
into battle, challenging for every ball, harrying their players and looking to
win it back, but just couldn’t get the ball into the net. They never had a shot.
Man of the Match – Chosen by Dave Glover for excellent play –
Josh Batt
Squad
List: Aaron Loughlin, Ben Clapp, Ben Watt, Charlie Goodwin, Corey Reid,
Courtney Johnson, George Pool, Jordan Finch, Joel Rowbottom, Lee Heath, Jake
Garnett, Jack Dancey, Perry May, Corey Mockridge, Haydn Suffern, Callum Morris,
James Moore & Jack Burgoyne.
On
the Thursday, the U8 Juniors went to play with the rest of the U8 Colts, and
Ben Harper came down for the day to enjoy Warmwell and then play the game. Again
Squad
List: Aaron Loughlin, Ben Clapp, Ben Watt, Charlie Goodwin, Corey Reid,
Courtney Johnson, George Pool, Jordan Finch, Joel Rowbottom, Lee Heath, Jake
Garnett, Jack Dancey, Perry May & Ben Harper.
Aaron
Loughlin –Aaron really enjoyed
playing in the arcades where he could spend Steve & Mandy’s money! He also enjoyed doing all of the sports on
offer.
Aaron
Sutton – This Aaron thought that
the swimming was the best, although he enjoyed spending Tony & Sam’s money
in the arcades as well. Aaron enjoyed
playing with all of his old friends again.
Ben Clapp – As with most of the players, Ben had fun in the
‘pool, splashing around with his friends and going down the chute. In the arcade, he especially enjoyed playing
on the air hockey game.
Ben
Harper – Ben said that he really
enjoyed playing on the machines in the arcades, although he didn’t specify
between the shoot ‘em ups & the slot machines! Ben also enjoyed playing down on the football
courts.
Ben Watt – Ben thought that the ski slopes were brilliant
and he enjoyed going down them. He also
enjoyed jumping and splashing around in the swimming pool.
Callum
Morris – Callum thought that the
ball pit was excellent, you could jump, slide swing, climb and fall to your
hearts content. He also enjoyed the
swimming pool with its great wave machine.
Charlie
Glavin – Charlie went in for a bit
of rollerblading, which obviously involved some falling over but he didn’t mind
that. Charlie also thought it was great
that he could play with his old friends again, especially Joe.
Charlie
Goodwin – Charlie is another one
who thought that the new improved ski slope was fantastic, and he enjoyed going
on that. He also enjoyed playing on the
money machines!!!
Corey
Mockridge – Corey enjoyed both
types of the pool. Firstly he had fun
splashing around, but afterwards, he would play on the pool tables, which he
thought was great.
Corey
Reid – Corey is another player who
really enjoyed the pool, although he didn’t specify which sort, so I’ll assume
it was both! Like Ben Clapp, Corey had
fun with the air hockey game.
Courtney
Johnson – Courtney really enjoyed
the ski slopes, even if it meant the odd tumble. He also thought that the arcade machines were
cool and Tina & Robbie were divulged of many a penny.
George
Paul – George was another who
enjoyed the simple pleasure of the arcades.
What he also enjoyed however was the opportunity to play with so many
friends.
Haydn
Suffern – Haydn was a fan of both
pools! He enjoyed the tables, knocking
down red after red, then would like nothing better than to get the cossy on and
dive into the other pool.
Jack Burgoyne – Jack was just like Haydn with his likes and
indeed could often be found in the arcades with him around the tables. After that, the lure of the swimming pool
would prove too much and in he would go.
Jack
Dancey – Jack is an accomplished
skier (better than his Dad from what we saw) and enjoyed gong from the top,
although the time he hit the fence probably doesn’t rate too highly in his
memory. Another type of blade to take
his fancy were rollerblades and he enjoyed whizzing around on those.
Jack
Yeoman – Jack was another who
enjoyed racking them up on the green baize (and finding the free table
helped) He also enjoyed going on a speed
boat (although he didn’t make it clear whether it was on water or in the arcade)
Jake Garnett
– Jake enjoyed the arcade games as well as getting onto the ski slopes, but he
also enjoyed seeing a lot of his old friends again.
James
Baker – James is a fan of the
simple pleasures in life, and one of them is Hide & Seek. On a site the size of Warmwell, it is something
both fun and not too wide-ranging. He
also brought his scooter with him, which he loved to whizz around on.
James
Moore – Like a lot of players,
James enjoyed swimming and splashing about, but he also had a trip into
Jamie
Godwin – Jamie likes playing
football whenever he gets the chance so he was onto the football courts
whenever he could. He also found he
could play tennis both there and outside his lodge which he enjoyed.
Joe
Carreyett – Joe was another who
liked to slide so it was onto the slopes for him. After that, the swimming pool, with its great
slider was the place to be, along with many of his friends.
Joel
Rowbottom – Joel went off in
another direction to most and found the joys of horse riding, I assume down at
Osmington, but he didn’t specify.
Another thing that Joel enjoyed was the chance to play with so many
friends.
Jordan
Finch – Like most of the players,
Jordan
Harris – This
Josef
Hill – Josef enjoyed the whole of
the Club great from the music and the food, to the arcades and the ball
pit. He also liked getting into his swim
trunks and diving into the pool.
Josh Batt – Josh was another addicted to the green baize as
he enjoyed the odd game of pool. On top
of this however, Josh just found the whole experience great fun and he had a
really nice time.
Lee Heath – Just like Jake, Lee found the ski slopes to be
excellent fun and then into the arcades to spend money. He also liked the opportunity to play with
all of his football friends.
Luke
Andrews & Luke Glover – The
two Lukes were identical with their responses.
They both like the Club as a whole, with the arcades, the music and the
chance to run around with no one shouting at you. As well as that, they both found the lure of
the swimming pool too much with its slider.
Mark
Gratton – Mark was quite often to
be found in the arcades, and more often than not, on the shoot ‘em ups. Another aspect to the arcades was the chance
to win tickets, and with them, prizes.
Matt Long – Matt was a big fan of the ski slopes and flying
down it was most exhilarating. After
that, Matt was often found playing footy on the courts.
Oscar
Hutchings – Oscar is another with
the simple pleasures. A chance to go
swimming and splashing was followed most times by a trip to the arcades where
he could spend Martin and Sue’s money.
Perry May – Perry, like Lee before him was a great fan of
the ski slopes and he enjoyed the chance to show off his skills. After that, he was to be found spending Dee
and
Sam
Burgess & Sam Kipling – Sam and Sam were generally inseparable, whether it be
flying down the ski slopes, splashing around in the swimming pool or hitting
the balls around the pool table, they loved it all.
Sam Pike – Spike is
another with a great affinity for the water when on tour and loved the chance
to splash around with his mates. He also
joined Dan up on the ski slopes for the chance of some real speed.
Tom Johnson – Tom’s pleasures were to be found in the arcades,
be it shoot ‘em ups, driving or whatever.
Added to this was the chance to win tickets for prizes and Tom was in
his element.
Again I
really enjoyed this tour, but it was a shame about the mix-up. We gave the
organiser the information, he just got it wrong. Both teams were welcoming however and gave us
all hard games.
For me,
this is more about having a holiday with friends and the odd game thrown in
than an actual tour (10 games in two days).
It is a chance for all of the families to bond on a social level and I
think that this was more than achieved going by the drinking and laughter up
the club.
That said,
judging by the boy’s reactions, they all loved it regardless of the games or
the results.
